Friend has a 2006 LT40 which the Cat has laid down on. Have to put a new engine on and was wondering on what others have done in this situation and which you like the best. It is a LT 40 with accuset and hydraulics.
Depends on the extent of damage to the engine. The 3024c's were prone to head gasket failure. If that is the case it may be a simple fix.
Depending upon which Cat engine, the current replacement shows to be either a Yanmar 35 or 47 hp. LINK (https://woodmizer.com/us/Shop/Replacement-Engines) It's time to give WM a call.
Wmz told me the cats came from two separate sources, one forged, the other cast cranks, if you want or need a good one, I know of one, as to head gaskets not sure bout this issue, never seen it,
Hello,
Can you describe the engine failure?
Marty
3 phase electric no less than 15 hp.

This engine has 6000 hours on it and appears to have a crank bearing going. It will start but sounds like a riss pin or bearing.
I'd start by tearing that one down and determining whether it can be repaired.
All the perkapillar talk lately has me frightened.
Mine started to leak a little oil and it appeared to be coming from the base gasket, so I tightened the bolts a little.
Now it leaks worse.
cant get the base off without raising the engine.
I cant tell if the front seal is leaking or not.
Looks like repairs are too much for me to handle
Thinking about taking it to Hannibal to address this.
Marty's opinion is that all such engines should have the head gaskets checked and the crank support installed.
It seems that WM installed engines that are prone to problems and us owners are in the barrel for any major engine failures.
WM no longer uses the perkapillars.
I think Cooks uses Perkins which may or may not be the same engine.
You dont hear of such problems with the other diesels.
The major auto mfgrs usually issue recalls for such stuff or offer replacements.
a case in point was the early GM diesels, I had a 79 olds that broke the crank at 50,000 miles and after much back and forth GM stood for a new short block.
If you buy a new GMC 6000 Truck with a Catapilar Diesel . The warranty on the diesel is with Catapilar not GMC.
That was a real issue with my mill. Mine came with a defective exhaust manifold, and the local CAT Store refused to fix it, or even look at it. WoodMizer paid another CAT dealership to fix it and said they would fight with CAT over the warranty.
