I picked up a large white oak log from a local tree service. To give you an idea it is about seven and a half feet log and weighs about 6,000 pounds.

The first step was to saw the log in half with a chainsaw. Not easy since my saw only got to the center of the log and I had to split it using wedges.

Then saw the half in half to make quarters.

Next I put each quarter on the mill and trimmed the bark side to be parallel with the pith laying on the bunks of my saw. I turned the log to take off small slabs.

Finally I got to the good part; sawing boards.

Some of the lumber I got from the log.

I got about 500 board feet out of this log, most of it over 10 inches wide.
A lot of work Warren but well worth it. :)
That tree service guy is your friend. Make sure you take care of him. You have produced the lumber we all dream about. Thanks for the pictures. Regards, Clark
nice figure,, I mean the wood grain figure,,
Really very nice lumber. I know it was a lot of work, but the lumber is just amazing.
Great looking lumber Warren! That was a large one to wrestle!
Wow...look at that fleck! Nice!
Thanks for posting it up.
Great job splitting the pith with the chainsaw.
