I recently bought this 395xp now I wish I had of bought one years ago! I've been doing most of my cutting with it. for a design that's been around since 92 it is a very nice saw and for the size of it handles well. It took a few days too get used to the weight but man what a beast when you sink it into the wood!

8) I can see why with the short bar. What are you cutting with that bad boy?
Mostly white pine! I bought a feller buncher a few months ago so I mostly just cut over size wood by hand now. Also when I'm not felling oversized with it I use it for bucking on the yard! That 20 is all I had to put on it lol I may order a 24 for it. Think it will pull it lol?
I bet it is a beast.
Wicked looking was bub!
Congrats mainelogger on the new saw.
They sure are nice saws.
Good luck with it.
I doubt that saw will be able to tell the difference if you switch to a 24" bar! ;D
What did you get for a buncher Mainelogger?
My friend has an old 394 . First thing I did was looked at your age . Yup you can handle that big saw . 40 years will make you reach for a 60 or 70 cc saw .

I bought a bell ultra C with a 18" koering hotsaw. It's a handy thing doesn't use a ton of fuel and will lay down enough wood in 2 hours too keep both cable machines busy for 2 days!
Gearbox I am sure you are right I still use my 70cc saws daily but I've been reaching for the 395 for everything except limbing behind the buncher.

Let me know how you like it. Have been thinking about getting one along with an older 540/548 or 640/648 grapple with a winch if that's the route I take.
I always thought one of those Bells would be slick for a small operation. They never caught on around here, probably because of how much swamp ground we cut. I'm not sure. But like you say, you could probably fire up and bunch for a day and skid for a week.
Gman will do if you get serious about buying something you can come down and check out my operation and see if it would work for you.
Barbender it does seem to work well for me we don't produce a huge amount of wood but I don't have much for payments. We went from roughly 4 or 5 load a week too 8 or 9 since I got the bell.
I bought a new 395 abit ago, have not put fuel in it yet but some day I will, the 395 ported is a real fun saw to run , you will smile like a young kid in a candy store LOL
I bet they are I'd like to get another one and send it to jack beeler for some work
Sorry to stay from your saw topic but i have just found out about bell ultra's a couple months ago and think they are wicked! They used to have one on the way to ellsworth i passed almost daily and didnt know what it was until i got into forestry.

Across from C@C machine? I looked at that a few years ago they didn't want much for it I think 4K would have bought it. It was a shear head tho and I wanted a hotsaw and a little newer. It would have probably been good for a firewood operation tho

Yep thats the one, ya a hotsaw sounds like alot better option then a shear.
The 395 is a beast of a saw. I use one mostly for bucking to length on the landing. As a felling saw in 20 inch timber it cuts too fast for my comfort. I've more than once sawed right through the hinge cause it cuts so fast. Im sure Id get used to it but just doesnt have the right feel to me in that situation. That said, I do love the power and speed.
