...nuts  in one of my black walnut tree..
  7  years ago I planted 100 black walnut trees ( 1ft to 1 1/2 ft tall)  but I live 25 miles north of Montreal, Quebec we have some cold winter.
Only 25 of those survived our weather . This time of the season the leaves are getting yellow and while cutting the grass I noticed 6 nuts in my 7 tears old tree not even 10 ft tall......what a nice surprise. I could find 2 more in another tree.
WHAT I DO NOW.... :D :D
Should I harvest them on the tree ???
Do I have to wait for them to fall, some freezing night will come soon .
After taking them do I have to wait long before eating them . I know for most of you this seems like a strange question but overhere it is not common to have black walnut trees.

I expect you can wait until they fall unless you are worried about squirrels.

1st, wear gloves unless you want stained hands for a couple weeks.

You will need to get the green/black husk off of them.  We spread them out on a gravel drive and drive over them a week or so.  A corn sheller also works well.  Then set them up to dry for a 6-8 weeks.  Can be longer.  A cool dry place is good, think garage.  This makes the nut meat easier to remove and improves flavor.  We use onion sacks for ventilation, but I don't think that will be an issue with your harvest.   ;)

We sold 3 barrels worth of nuts yesterday.  However, I'm not making light of your harvest.  We got our first cherry (singular) this summer off of the 27 fruit trees we planted 2 years ago.  We cut it up into 8 pieces and served it with toothpicks at our family picnic.   ;D

Well you beat me with all your nuts.....but I win for the cherrys.....I had at least 20 cherrys this year :D :D Thank you for your answer and experience.
