Title: 038 evolutions?
Post by: OneWithWood on January 04, 2005, 07:11:03 AM
I would like to put my trampled upon Stihl 038 AV Farm Boss, circa 1985, back together.   What cases and handlebars will fit this vintage saw?  What makes a Farm Boss a Farm Boss?  Are the cases any different than the standard 038?

Hi there,

You would be best off finding yourself an 038 handlebar for your saw.  I've actually used 036 handlebars in the past and they fit suprisingly well.  038's had 3 different bore sizes 48 mm, 50 mm and 52 mm.  Here are some of the prefixes that went along with the different bore sizes 48 mm (AV), 50 mm (AV Super, Super Farmboss, Farmboss), and 52 mm (Magnum).  I believe any 038 crankcase will work on your saw.
I hope this helps and goodluck with your restoration,
Brad

Hi
You can use the case from the 038 AV or the 038 Super on your saw. The 038 Mag has a different bolt pattern for the cylinder.
