Post by: ga jones on November 30, 2017, 07:29:01 PM

I bought used from golden rule here local. The bitch about it is the ring gear is riveted on the main shaft. No one rivets anymore and there is nothing available aftermarket so you have to change the whole shaft. The shaft is the whole problem to begin with. The stupid setup with the bearings sandwiched together and 20 different shims in 1 thousandth incriminates. You can't get them just right it wears the shaft and you have to get the bearing surface spray welded and re machined.the worst engineering I've ever seen.

Oh yeah and you have to completely disassemble the entire winch to change the ring and pinion. 😤 it's no wonder Paccar scrapped it.  I got it all done works better than new. It

Another one to add to the list would be Fraley tractor in Wenatchee.

Boy, this is why I didn't want a Skidder with a gearmatic. I want to just pull wood on weekends occasional use. Didn't want to work on a winch all the time, so I wasn't too keen on a gearmatic.... glad I have a big Clark winch

I've always heard good things about the Clark. Never had the opportunity to run one or work on one.
