Title: Are they worth anything?
Post by: old3dogg on September 11, 2004, 05:52:57 AM
I have 7 slabs of Soft Maple. They are kiln dried to 6% MC.
The slaps are 5' long,2"thick and range from 8" to 24" wide.
Some figure and a few knots but no cracks.
Are they worth anything?Im not a wood worker so I have no use for them other than the wood burnner.

If you can't sell them you could donate them to a school's woodworking program and go for the tax write off.

At an average width of 14" @ $3.00/bf it would add up to $250.00.  It also depends on how you file your taxes too.  Even if you can't take advantage of the write off, I'm sure the school and kids would appreciate it.  Many school woodshop programs require the kids to buy their own lumber.

I really dont care about the tax write off but donating them to a school is a good idea.We have a Vo Tech school about 8 miles from here.I will give them a call on Monday.
Thanks again.

wish I was closer, I'd buy them.  You don't get up to western new york often do you?  Or down to philly area?  I've got people up there and I live near philly.  Man, wish I was closer.  If you can't move them, I can probably get someone to get them for me if you can hold them for a bit.  Thanks!
