Just as the sun rises in the east, so too shall a walnut have nails.

I own my own small piece of the world on an 8 acre plot on the side of a mountain with walnut, hickory, ash and spruce.

End coating with two thick coats of Anchorseal is essential ASAP.

Oxalic acid will remove some or all of the iron stain...available in a hardware store.

I use Oxalic acid as a boat hull cleaner, I had not thought to use as a walnut cleaner.  I just sawed some walnut last week, hit 5 nails in one log so it has a lot of purple in it.  I will give it a try.

Take steps to save steps.

If it won't roll, its not a log; it's still a tree.  Sawmills cut logs, not trees.

Kiln drying wood: When the cookies are burned, they're burned, and you can't fix them.

Sawing is fun for the first couple million boards.

Be smarter than the sawdust

Most deck brightener is oxalic acid. It would be interesting to see what it does to walnut.  Maybe try on iron-stained WO too.

No ant nest either, you're lucky!  Glad you got it done.  Now your next question will be in a few years, how do I flatten the slabs?!
Anything someone can design, I can sure figure out how to fix!
If I say it\\\\\\\'s going to take so long, multiply that by at least 3!

Be sure to rinse off the oxalic acid
