I know, just another whiner over saw parts. But, gee ghats come on. Does Stihl think I'm going to buy a locknut for $9.99 each for the clearing saw head? The bag they come in has 6 in there, I think 6 for $9.99 CDN is still pricey. I wanted to get a spare today, and just walked away from that price. I noticed the tooth guages were $25.00 too. If I talk to the right guy on the corner, I'm sure I can get a bagful of locknuts for $5.00. :D :D ;D Stihl have their parts locked down pretty tight so ya can't even get them through mail order. That's well and good if i could walk into the local dealer and get that part I need today, but that don't happen in my area, even though they sell lots of saws. Go figure. I don't have any problem with service, because I think these guys are real good on servicing, parts is a different language. ;D

In another life I had  me an upholstery line in a furuniture factory .  One of my men come up with a GREAT BIG pacifier one time. The thing was HUGE!  Anybody on the line started cryin and complaining a few of the men would get together, catch the guy not looking and hang that pacifier WAY over his head!   And then they'd all make fun of em!!!!!!   8) 8) 8)

Now as I said Swamp, I weren't talkin about you!   That 10 dollar lock nut is way out of line!!!!! :)

I'm known as a whiner at work. The standing joke is that you can tell if I'm whining because my lips will be moving.  ;D A few months ago we were doing some work at a church/ private school and I found a pacifier on the ground. Well, Steve took it and attached it to my tree climbing saddle when I wasn't looking, so now I have it readily available any time I satart whining and crying!  :D

Oh, I don't whine all the time. Just some of the time.  ;)

Yea, I know what you mean. That is a steep price. So did you buy them or what did you do? Now check out this price.  I bought a stihl chain from one stihl store 84 links for $23.00 and went to aother stihl store to but one more stihl 84 link chain. They were out of stihl 84 link chain but found me a oregon 84 link chain for $38.00. I sure ain't going to that store any more. dave

Oregon_Rob

$.45 a driver, now that¡¦s steep and if it weren¡¦t a Stihl dealer, I might not believe itƒº ::)

No, I didn't buy the nut, and I found out from another dealer over the internet that its $4.95 USD plus freight for one. Which is even more expensive by the time it arrives here.  I'm going to have to go to Presque Isle, Me to MPG, maybe they are a dealer.

Termite!!

Whose the Stihl dealer in your kneck of the woods, or Caribou or Presque 'Isle?

Donk,
I dont know what is special about the nut except it might be a left-hand thread instead of a more common right-hand thread.
That's the case on one the several different straight shaft bush whackers I have.

If you know a machinist, you can get one made. A dozen for the same price probably.  I found a nut that would fit my saw at the local hardware store.  I never thought I would find one, but there it was.  I can't remember the price but it seems it was a half-a-dollar or something like that.

I was going to drill the nut and shaft for a safety wire but decided to not do that and weaken something.  I did put a lock nut under it and jammed the two together.  Then I drilled the shaft at the end and put a carter key through it to keep stuff from falling all the way off.  There was just barely room for all of it.

I forget to look in the hardware store for parts, assuming that they are so special.  It amazes me when I find something, right under my nose, that will work.
