hey guys, I went out this evening to saw a few ties. I started the mill and when I went to raise the log loader nothing! all the other hydraulic fuctions are gone too. it has a fairly new hydraulic motor replaced about 4 months ago, I also haven't ran the mill in about 2 weeks, last it ran everything was fine! there is no click just nothing! it was about to get dark so I couldn't see to work on it very much, but im gonna get started on it very early in the morning, so any and all help is much appreciated........thanks guys! :P ??? >:(

On my newer mills there is a small micro switch inside the hyd. box. I would start by making sure it is being engaged when you operate the hyd. levers. It might be out of adjustment or might need replaced. If the switch seems to be working I would check the solenoids.

The fact is that you will have to take a multimeter and do some testing because there are too many variables.  Assuming that the battery is good. I would first verify the ground because that is the simplest thing to eliminate.  Then take each item as you progress toward the hydraulic motor.  Be aware that you may show voltage at a point that will disappear as soon as you pull/push a hydraulic lever and add the load of the motor.

Be sure to check the fuse and that nothing is interrupting the terminal strip and contact.

Move the carriage away from the contact strip, and then wire brush the strip clean.
Also check the ground pad to the bottom rail. Wire brush the bottom rail if needed.

Clean and inspect the rub pad that rubs these two.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

I took my solenoid apart, it looked ok but smelled burnt! and looks like my solenoid is a after market one  mounted to the outside of the hydraulic control box...will a old ford solenoid work?? thanks keep the advice coming I need it! :P ??? :P ??? :P ???.. oh I do have power to the solenoid, contact strips adjusted and seem good,. I just don't have power coming out to the control levers from solenoid.

I think you can get them locally from your regular auto parts store, but there is something special about them.
I can't remember what it is.
Some thing like a different ground.

You'd better call WM first before you buy the wrong one.
They will tell you what it is and then from there you should be able to get one locally and not have to wait for one to be shipped in.

thanks Jim, ill call WM now! and I think your right on the ground, there is something different! positive ground or something.. :-\

The WM units are "continuous duty" and designed for the application.  Others may be available, but I would rather stick with OEM.

When mine went out I took a piece of wire and jump from the hot side of the solenoid to the side going to the hyd motor just to check the solenoid. Also listen and see if it is clicking when you move the handles. You have to make sure you get the right solenoid because those run off a ground contact instead of a positive. I got mine from central parts warehouse for about 19 bucks
