We had gusts up to 60mph yesterday and last night.  Mother nature put some saw logs and firewood on the ground for me.  I can't wait to get out there and get at it.  As soon as I get off this stretch of OT at work.  I think I have 7-10 more 12hr midnight shifts left.

They are mostly ash borer killed trees aside from some collateral damage to a few maples.

Looks like about 20 saw logs and lots of firewood.

I like it when they blow down since it gives me more room to drop the other ones, and I don't have to fear for my life when I'm cutting them down ;D

Now I hate to see one of mine up root. Your ground looks nice.   ;D  With mine either I have a rock to go around,or a good size dip,or a wet hole.If a tree up roots, there's one more thing for me that is in the way. I have very few that have done that.

You hate to see the damage, but at the same time are grateful, been there for sure,  lumber and firewood from wind fall is not a bad proposition.  The OT, well it makes good pay checks, but killer for life as we like it.

only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

+1 on that!  Also limbs that hung up & a lot of stress in logs.  Good luck with the unplanned harvest!

it's never good to see any storm damage, but seeing the topic line a carpenters joke came to mind

The trees were all dead anyways.  Ash borer fatalities - the wind just made my life easier is all.  I see some sides for my firewood trailer maybe posts for the timber frame laying right there on the ground.  I can't wait to get out there.  Just got an order for 7 more face cord today, but I'm 12hr shifts until at least the 25th.  I may snag a couple tomorrow though before work and knock out the 2 face order.

There was a bad patch of wind in a few places in New Zealand recently, down near Christchurch I had to go do some logging (my mills about to head down there as well now)
But i'm always amazed at what the wind can do to trees.

This picture is a bit dark sorry, but this was a semi mature pine plantation before hand and now, well, look whats left.. (there was lots of this)
And yes, working in this stuff is the pits, so always be carefull with hangups and things under stress!!

I've been on 7 12's or 10's since March April .Makes for a good pay check but leaves little time for anything else.

That was the same wind that came busting through these parts .I may have a few on the ground too but I have no clue it's always dark out ,day shift .

thechknhwk

Yeah long shifts make for little time for anything else, but the tools are accumulating nicely ;D  I just did 13 in row then 2 days off, picked up the kubota on the 12th then up to another 16 in a row, but it might end on the 25th.

For sure, be careful out there.  I made a little headway before work today.  I cleared 2 downed trees from the trail, pulled out a 50 footer, cut up the 25' firewood log, got a 12' saw log from the 50 footer and cut most of the rest of it into firewood.  I will try to video it when I pull down the one that is hung up to see how the grapple works on it.  I probably could have got a 12 & an 8 out of the 50', but I needed the firewood, and it was getting crooked.  You can see what not to do with the grapple at the end of the video.  I snatched it up too far and the log got bound on the side of the skid plate and it was pushing me into the woods.  I reconnected and pulled it out fine, but my phone must have a 2 min video limit, so I didn't capture that.

the woods out back of my place are a little bit thicker than yours  I  need to clear out trees to get to the trees that fell ,  if you know what i mean .  I am going to wait until it gets  freezing cuz the ground is a little wet and my  white tractor is only 2 wheel drive and gets stuck easy in muddy terrain trying to pull trees out like you did  ,

You could chain it up but all that would do is rut up the woods .Wait a few weeks, from what hear it should freeze up .

I doubt I see the light of day until Feb with all the over time I've been working .By then it should be hard as a rock as I have a couple 100 footers to drop and drag .Not all hundred at a time mind you . :D

BTW the wifes nephew lives in New Boston.
