I've only ever sawn larch with a pit saw, so this should be interesting. Hopefully the footage should be a bit better per hour. :D The log that we cut on the pit saw was green on the inside, this stuff looks more like pine or hemlock. These are pieces bucked off of hop poles, which I guess had a very close diameter spec. I'm hearing that larch is the new PT. :D

It mills up nice, and is ideal for use in moist conditions, however must be dried out of the sun, or it will crack beyond belief.

Is that hackmatack? I just brought about a 10 foot piece up for firewood. It was about 8 inches across. It was in the way for a road that I am making. Seemed kinda sound,I thought it was cedar until I sawed into it. Smelled diffeant, than I came to to what it was.Might just as well use it for firewood,I pushed it out of the way a few times already. Been there so long,I have no idea how it got there.I suppose it was a dead tree that fell over.

Usually called Tamarack in this area. Our former family doctor built a log cabin with it back in 1928  on land which adjoins ours. Cabin is still in great shape.
