got back inLate Monday, What a neat-o trip. I swear its a good thing I love my sister otherwise I wouldn't do that show.

Left thursday all was well till I got about 60 miles from Sis's house, Darned if the van didn't spring an oil leak around the valve cover gasket. That in it self wasn't to bad. Set up friday and realize I left some of the turning tools at home. So after supper I check the woodcraft site and head into Richmond to do shopping, And darned if they didn't close at 7. back home check the website again and darned if stupid me didn't read the hours right.

Back in there in there saterday morning and lucky me the had a 15% off sale on anything you could get in the bag, Darned if the Kelton mini hollowers and a thin Sorby parting tool fit right in,

Haul but back to Blackstone and and start turning and selling, things went well Saterday and Sunday sold some bowls, Only sold 2 of the picture frames which I thought would be a hit. Lost count of the Mushrooms I sold. Met a prospective young turner of 15 years old. Young man had a great looking paduck and birch pen he had turned.

Didnt sell any of the big bowls but I did sell the all the peppermills. and last but not least i turned aThin cherry goblet  last year? well My wife sold it. I never in my wildest dreams imagined it would sell, wouldn't have bothered me if it never sold i liked it myself. A lot of people have admired it since I turned itand imediatly set it down when I quoted them a price.

Get this her 17 year old daughter was admiring it and she bought it for her as a gift.

now back to the Van!! saterday evening My brother who went along with me, and I put on a new valve cover gasket. nearing the end I hapened to look underneath and I spy antifreeze dripping. Darned if the water pump didnt take a dump. Sunday morning the wife goes and picks up a water pump, now mind you not a napa store in sight and its a napa water pump under warrenty. oh well. in the proccess of putting it on sunday evening in the dark I dropped a bolt, think I could find that suck, NO!!!! so monday I get up and go get a bolt, get back and while I was gone Brother found the one I dropped, Standing upright on the head laying on the frame rail. oh well such is life. Get it all back together check the fluids and its a smidge low on brake fluid. Topped it off and headed for home. Get up on the PA pike that evening and the brakes start to get a tad mushy. low on brake fluid again adn its not leaking anywhere, stupid master cylander is going out. nursed it on to my brothers dropped him and his wife off. Head for home, stopped and filled it up one last time get about 5 miles from the house adn the darne thing quits running. Fuel pump took a crap!!!!, oh well called up the cousin and had him come tow me the rest of the way home.

Oh well I had fun anyway even if it was frustrating!!

I love peppermills. Someone gave me a plastic disposable one recently but it has no character!

I had an old one that you could adjust the corseness (sp) by the screw on the top, Don't know if it was a feature or a flaw but I liked it.

Can any of yours do that, I might just be interested if they do.

Thanks for the update,  I was wondering how you did at the show. Sorry to hear of your troubles, just what ya need when yer so far from home and got a show to do!

Your statement about the mushrooms, "Lost count of the mushrooms I sold" was interesting because a friend of mine who is a turner just recently done a show here in WNY and he couldn't get anyone to even look at his mushrooms. He sold quite a few bowls and bottle stoppers though. That's the bad thing about doing shows, ya never know what the hot items are going to be until afterwards :D.

Shows are funny Brian. I figured the picture frames would sell, they hold a 4x5 picture free standing top comes off and you can put 2 pictures in it one facing each way. At 10 bucks apiece I figured they would be gone but nope.

Buzz I have know Idea, but you may be on to something, must be van specific gremlins though the trucks running fine

WS the adjuastabilaty is a standard feature. But unfortunatly your gonna have to wait. I'm currently out of them and Doc and the wife have me locked out of the shop for now  :( :(

I have been getting interested in the craft shows.  I have been supplying wood to couple of craft guys and talked one of them into taking some of my cutting boards and boxes to some shows to see if they would sell.  He sold a few for me so sorta thinking about the next step.

Looks to me the best craft shows are the juried ones.  Wanted to try War Eagle in Arkansas this fall but found out they only let the pros in plus they got a 3 year waiting list.  Thought maybe we might set up at one of the little shows in the area on the same weekend.

Complete novice at craft shows so anybody have any advice or suggestions?

Once ya get into Arkansas, Try to get accepted into the Mt. View Crafters Guild. They are tough, but, once accepted, they even purchase your goods to put in Their Guild shops.

After we tried for 4 years to get accepted, they came to us when we were set up at their show in Mt. View and asked us to join. We had already made plans to move to Fl.

We were accepted without being juried. They scoped our stuff at the table while we did not know about it.  ;) ;)

You are right. Juried shows are tough to get into.  Check out the one in Pea Ridge, right across from the Battle Ground. Can't remember their show name. Vic and Laurie run it. A real class act. There is a wait there, also. Might be Quail something. ::) ::)

The War Eagle show USUALLY gets lots of rain, and it is a slick and slimy mess. LOTS of folks started going to higher ground.Yer a little late. There is a Crafters magazine with all shows and dates. Try a Google for  the mag.

Go to Eureka Springs with some of your best stuff. The shops there may buy for resale.

Build a roadstand and sell yer stuff to the Touristers.

The best idea is, start yer own. Guaranteed to make money renting booth's, and you can display your own stuff.  ;) ;D ;D ;D
