I set up my dog and clamp system yesterday and it was a total failure.  I lined it up so dogs were in line with my blade guides to give me the most possible amount of room for cutting logs.  Because the logs aren't perfectly round I kept running into the log with the non moveable blade guide.

Could someone with a mill that works put up a picture showing where the dogs are in relation to the blade guide or measure how far the dog is inside of the blade guide?

I set mine at the center of the guides. every once in a while the guides do hit the log. i try to watch that side when I first rotate the log to make sure it isnt hanging out to far.

If cutting knarly logs the roller guide will hit the log Some times i put a 6x6 or2x12 as a spacer.
this will only happen on opening cut. my stops are aprox 2in inside fixed roller guide every machine has these little probmatic tricks that we have to deal with.
Happy sawing and be careful.

My mill has adjustible stops, so it isn't a huge issue.  Usually, you can turn the log on the opening cut so that it doesn't interfere with the guides, and use the stop height to adjust the location of the log on the track.  It all comes down to eyeballing it before starting the cut... but the chain saw is always within easy reach!

There are some threads on the forum about cutting curved logs, and the general opinion is that it is best to start milling with the hump of the curve down.
