New to this site. Its only proper to introduce yourself and say hello. Most in my small town call me by Bartman. Found this site and thought it would be beneficial as I and my oldest son burn firewood in our homes. I've been burning for 7 years. Just installed a different stove in my house last fall (a year ago) and my furnace never ran last winter and it was a hard winter here in Iowa. We have 3 saws, 2 stihl 029's and a 310. We built a nice wood hauling trailer complete with a splitter accross the tongue. Its in the process of getting upgraded right now. Mainly this year we have cut oak, red elm and hickory, but if the snow holds off long enough I just heard of a endless supply of black locust we would like to go after. Once I learn how to post up pictures I will. Looking forward to sharing as well as learning. If this is posted in the wrong area, feel free to move it, I didn't see a new guys intro anywhere.

Howdy bartman, glad you got in, I sure would like to see your trailor/combo splitter, that sounds like a good idea.
Real good idea.  I too hope this winter is more mild than last year.  But it is what it is.  Get that picture posting thing figured out, ;D   oh yea let us know what part of Iowa you're in,,  the locust has my attention.
only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

Welcome! I'm still on my second handle of my splitting mall.

I like that combo trailer.  Good for splitting in the woods.  I do wish I had a good splitter.  Mine is temperamental.  It won't work in the cold, or on Sunday, or after dark.  Course I'm not as young as I used to be.
I cant figure out which one I like better: working with wood or making the tools to work with wood.

I got the bed for the trailer for free. I had the frame, it was a 78 heavy half ton. The 88 is my everyday driver/work/woodcuttin/all purpose truck. It probably is put together with half the parts coming from a junk yard.

Since these pictures I have done some upgrading to the splitter. It originally had a 1 stage pump and a 5 horse. I have added a 2 stage 11 gpm pump and a 8 horse motor. Also made the push block a little bigger and more hieght to the splitting edge. Still got more modifiying, once its all done I'll post up pictures of the improvements.

We got a lot done tonight, I just posted a write up on the work in the firewood section. I did a write up with pictures of the improvements we made to the wood hauler in there, figured better to just post that here rather than posting the pictures twice, its under wood trailer/log splitter combo if anyone wants to check it out.
