Well I picked up my mill on Monday, I did get the debarker to. Cut my first boards yesterday and I have my first question! What's the verdict on turning the log after the first cut. Do you turn it 90deg or 180deg. I've heard from both sides and was wondering what you all think.

I like to flip 180°. This gets me closer to my pattern sooner.

I think it depends.
If you turn 90 you will only turn the log 3 times. If you turn 180 then you will have to bring it back around to take that face anyway. but like I said it all depends. I do both, and of course I'm not a high production operation.
Congrats on the new mill.

According to an article I read some wheres if you flip 180* then you will have fewer boards to edge.
Personally the log itself and what you are sawing frequently are the determining factors.
If the logs are dirty: slab, take a board, flip 180*, slab, take a board, flip 90* and cut boards to me this gets you out of cutting through mud the quickest.
Note: that the size of the log and thickness of cuts can affect your manner of operation.

Oh and another thing I noticed is the debarker doesn't work on small logs. Or am I doing something wrong? And I really don't like that stupid beeping!

Is it that it the debarker is at the end of its travel (push it all the way in towards the log  to see), or that it is just not going in this far when you're sawing?  Two different situations, the first, yes your logs are too small 4-5' maybe?   The second, different reasons are possible......

The beeping is to keep you from getting in contact with it if you walk around the head to the blade side while it is spinning.
