Anyway, new guy with a "new" mill. Here's the background story. A very close friend bought a TK1220 several years ago and hardly used it. It has sat outside uncovered the whole time. The motor was covered I think for a while. It might still be, I'm unsure. I'm pretty sure it may have become slightly uncovered during this period and whether or not it was recovered is unknown at this time. I've been on them for years to let me get it running again but to no avail. I think one of them tried to start it but it wouldn't run so that was it. ( I think it had water in the carb.

It's been sitting on the ground for most all of this time so I'm sure it will have some frame rot and other problems. He said he has a bunch of blades for it somewhere too.

I'm sure I'll have lots of questions and will need lots of help with this project in the future.

For a hundred beans I'd be hooking it up and GONE before he changes his mind. :o Even 800 would be an exceptional deal. What engine is on it?

$100 or $800 you still can't go wrong.  If I were you I'd order a guide roller alignment tool from WM or Cook's right now.  Also give TK a call at 1-800-942-4406 ask for Matt tell him that you just got a 10 year old 1220 and want an owner's manual, I'd be surprised if he didn't send it to you for free.

Good luck!
Boy, back in my day..

Awesome deal, even if you have to replace the motor (doubt it), you made out like a bandit.  Best of all, this mill will finally by making lumber instead of rusting.

I can't remember what motor is on it. I'm worried water may have gotten in it. I've seen gas tanks fill with water before and corrode carbs to the point where water will leak down the intake. If I have to get another motor that's fine.

Nice score, it may be a project but at least you will get to know your mill and how to keep it sawing good. Good luck even 1800 is a really good deal!

Gave him the $ before church this morning; done deal. I went by today and cleared the brush from around it.  He says it sat there for five years but I think it was longer. We are close friends and I am there a lot and I remember it sitting there longer. I found the tow wheels for it overgrown by brush but was too tired to clear a path to them. I'll have it back here tomorrow and have some pics for you guys.

Good to hear cause now I'll need help getting the carriage back on the frame.  arg-smiley

Long story short, I tried to get it back home before bad weather moved in. His road get really bad when wet and he doesn't like folks going down it after it has rained. I bushwacked the brush to get the to the wheels, got everything all lined up and hooked to the truck. I though I had the carriage secured good enough to get me to the top of the small hill where he could show me how to lock it down for road travel. He doesn't move around too good and I didn't want to drag him down there to show me what to do. I was working alone and ran over one of the blocks he had it siting on and disturbed it enough to make it go over backwards. It didn't go down too hard and it doesn't appear to be hurt bad. I did bend something which looks like maybe the adjustment lockdown for the band guide. Too hard to tell as it's still under the cover and flipped facing up. I'll know more after the rain stops and I can get my hoist over there. I'm a bit bummed out but better there then on the road and I wanted to look under the carriage anyway. ;D

kellysguy

While I'm waiting for it to stop raining, what is the proper prep for road transport? He didn't remember what goes where.

I don't have a TK, but for most mills you want the head all the way down on the bed and locked in place just fore or aft of the axle. There should be some sort of lock downs to keep the mill head in place while transporting.

I don't have a 1220 and suspect that it bolts down a bit different than mine with changes over the years.  I would call TK at 800-942-4406. Ask for Jason or Jimmy and I am certain they can help. Those two are good folks and can really help you.

I can't remember if posting a phone number is verboten or not.  If so and it gets deleted go to http://timberking.com/ for the phone number.

kellysguy

I got it back on and everything bolted down like it's supposed to be. It's not home yet as rain is coming again and I know now to listen to the voice in my heads that says, "Tomorrow is another day".

It didn't get hurt too bad; a bent fender stanchion and the blade guide lock adjuster. Nothing I can't fix.  The band tension side wheel is frozen in the adjustment tracks. I managed to get the clutch free and can turn the band by hand now.

I've decided to do a full "restoration" on it and go through everything. I need to get to know it and that would be the best way not to mention it needs attention now if I want it to last.

I have my brother in law said he can hook me up with a tree guy for logs and a friend ma be able to send some work my way. I know all this is hard work but I need the exercise.
