Tell us where you are located.  You can go to your profile and add that information.  It will help us answer your questions.

It is important to have the timber appraised so that you understand the value of what you have.  It is never a good idea to sell something that you do not know the value of.  How will you know that you are getting a reasonable deal if you decide to sell the timber?

Black oak is in the red oak family and the price just keeps dropping. Water standing might as well forget it a couple of passes with a tree length log and your be up to your belly pan. If your looking to get rich black oak isn't the answer. Not trying to bum you out but it is not a get rich bussiness eather you love it or hate it good luck with your adventure.

Call a mill or call a licensed forester.

The mistake of cutting a tree that nobody wants (and will pay for) cannot be overstated.

The next 100 years ought to be the halmark of your plan.....

If its close to a river/creek it might have some black walnut in it which have a value. Also if there is black oak then there i usually whiteoak which again holds a decent value. We have cut along the missouri river before n have seen some nice valuable stands of timber along it its def worth having it checked out by a logger or forester.

If it was me and could I would wait till the price comes back up some.
Give me a new saw chain and I can find you a rock in a heartbeat.

We have done 2 successful timber sales on our tree farms.
Both were the result of working with our forester and developing a forest management plan.
I highly recommend getting with a forester and developing your own management plan.
