Can you identify this firewod?

I'm really confused about this already dead tree I cut up for firewood.  I thought it was beech because of the smooth grey bark but now that I look at the grain I thought it was poplar or aspen.  But it's dried out and it's still got a good weight and burns nicely so I'm not sure any more.  Any ideas?  I'd really appreciate it.

Looks like a soft maple, like red or silver maple
LT10G10, Stihl 038 Magnum, many woodworking tools. Currently a farm service applicator, trying to find time to saw!

Some of those maples can have some smooth bark when they are young.
