:I bought an old C4 with a 220 Ford Dagenham diesel in it a little while back.  It still has the CanCar tag but there's only one number on it.  Anyone have a serial number list?  Not too terrible shape for a 50 year old or so machine but I'd like to know more about it.  Not too many skidder dealers here in Iowa.  Has a Gearmatic 9 behind the seat which needs some attention (will have to wait till warmer weather- I'm 62 and haven't got anywhere to work on it inside).  It's had some cobbling done on it, some good jobs and some bad.  Bought it because I've got 10- 15 acres of cleanup work %#@&**** mulberrys and scrub elm, and it will sure beat pushing all the junk to the burn pile with my old crawler one at a time (save the undercarriage, too).  Anybody out there familiar with this old devil?  Sure does a nice job of cleaning out after a blizzard, too.  Thanks

Welcome to the board Randy. I have an older Garrett skidder. Check out my gallery for pictures. I have not had luck with serial numbers as far as Garrett goes. Please post some pictures of your machine.

There is a pile of information on here about c4 . Use the search. The serial numbers don't mean anything. The roll cage and style of the cable arch will determine the approximate year. pictures will help

I have a '66 C4, tagged Can-Car. It has a Gearmatic 9, 254 CI Ford (Dorset) and a tubular arch. Axles are PR52 (8 lug) with 18.4 x 26 tires. Great little machine- pretty stable and you can get into places without cutting an airstrip.
I know why dogs stick thier head out the car window.

;Mine has the same cage as this (the tree sweeps are straight) , but has the Dagenham and 18.4-34's.  Wish it was a Dorset- I have several 6-cyl Dorsets out of old New Holland combines that I could rob injectors, rockers, etc. off of.  Most of the Dagenhams around here were on water pumps and they went bye-bye when the iron prices went thru the roof.  My old engine is pretty tired.  I have a couple 203 Perkins but they're in good running tractors and I don't want to junk the tractors.  My Dad bought one of them on my 6th birthday and I drove it 18 miles home that day. Colder than the hubs of he** and a stiff NW wind in my face but I was proud as a peacock.  Wish I hadn't junked out that 180 Massey with a good 236.

I found a salvage yard in southern IL that has some parts, but I wonder if there are any yards in Minnesota or Wisconsin or even dealers.  Like I said skidder dealers are pretty much nonexistent in Iowa.  I'm going to try to put up a gallery of some of our escapades later tonight.

Garrett sold the tree farmer namd and design to cancar i think in late 64, and built several for them during the transistion. They put the model and SN on the left front frame rail near where the battery is. If you take out the battery and look on the inside or top frame rail, you should see a s/n. It might even be partially obscured or covered by the front radiator cover piece, if it was in fact built in Enumclaw WA.

My can car tree farmer has the serial number  tag below the clutch master cylinder. It's an early 60s

This one has the tag under the clutch master cylinder.  The battery box (appears to be factory) is on the right side of the transmission area.  I found a good 236 Perkins for it but don't have a bell housing or flywheel yet.  The old Dagenham is VERY tired, and I bought the Perky for about a third of the cost of  :Dan overhaul kit and pump rebuild for the Ford.  I've owned and still do own quite a few tractors an combines with Perkins and have a lot of spare parts for them.  Just no SAE housings or flywheels.  I'm sure I'll find one though.
