My son has my old 61 which still runs very well.
The problem is with the muffler screws/bolts.
They keep working loose causing the muffler to fail.
Any suggestions?
Helicoil?
He has tried loctite to no avail.

Maybe lock washers under muffler bolt head?
Helicoil is expensive. Before I spent that money, I'd get a 272xp top end for it - esp if P, R or C is scored in any way. IIRC, you gotta change intake adapter and get longer carb bolts.

The old Jonsereds had a good idea for locking the muffler bolts. Here's a pic of my 70E with its locking  plate strap under the bolt heads. Beautiful well built saw from the late 1970s. Definitely going to give it a complete restoration.

Little off topic but I got two mint jonsered 52's

I had the same problem.
Fixed it with a thread restore tool, new bolts and lock washers.
The metal bolt lock shown above work really good too.
I also used some red Loctite.

As an electrician, i use a tap to restore threads all the time, only difference is i work with smaller screws. If the female threads are damaged you will see it on the male threads too.
The saw is more fun than the purpose of the wood... the forest is trembling 🌳

Finally got the parts and re-assembled using locktite stripped thread formula.
We'll see how this works.
the lock plate idea is OK but the design of this muffler doesnt allow it.
