Had A logger pull some firewood for me.

This is the first bunch, Ground is frozen all good.

Today.

Old bump trees.

Walls all over, Had to open it up.

I think there's a tri-axle truck load here. Maybe 7 cords.  But I don't want to start trouble.  ;D :D :D

With the rain my haul road is falling apart.

But, my bridge is holding up good.
Now if it would get cold now.

The firewood looks good.
It's gotta get cold again. May not see a week of below zero, but I would expect below freezing day and night coming ahead of us.

Nice lookin' firewood, but, I'm sure my wife could burn that pile in a weekend  :D

Back when I was sawing at least half that pile would have been made into coal mine blocking. We would have still gotten a lot of firewood from the slabs. That's a good thing to cull out bad trees. Use the wood how you see fit. It's yours.

I could saw it all up into pallat wood and evo matts too. Some good logs, mostly good fire wood. Ann and I should be all set for the next 2 years.
Unless I burn too much in the shop. ;D

Beams bolted together to make a mat. That's 8" tall 4' wide and 16' long.
Hardwood. Use in mud and soft spots. Put 3 together and you have a 12' wide bridge.
I use to cut them out of Hemlock too. But. 12" tall.

They make a good skidder bridge too.

Seen them used on one of my jobs in a past life as skid bridges on narrow runs of water. Cabled together, lift, carry and drop where needed on the skid trail. No 3 foot deep tire ditches.  ;D

Peter thanks for sharing the photo's..  how much do they sell them for once put together?

Peter Drouin

Not sure on the Hemlock, The hardwood is .62 to .65 a BF for the beams not put together. I had a guy in Keene, NH want me to sell him some. The logs are .42 to .45 a BF to buy. And he wants me to pay for trucking. No money in it with a Wood Mizer, Have to cut a lot faster than what a small band mill will do.
I did ok with the Hemlock.
When a Market opens up be lumber or chips  All the commercial mills will jump on it. Then everybody on quotas.

If I had to do it again, I would have a circle mill with a top saw all run on a Genset. ;D
And I might. ;)

The big hardwood mill next to me cuts the mat logs out of beach and lots of them .
They load them and truck to there other mill 20 miles away.
They have a jig they put them in and the holes are drilled with a machine at once then all threaded together.

There was a guy in Maine on CL with a rig to make the holes. Had a LT70 and all kinds of stuff. for sale. I called Ross [WM of Maine ] and ask why. He said the guy could not find the help to do the work.

They cut any hard wood for mats.  All you need is a 16' log with a 10" top and straight.
I have never seen a 8' wide one.

This place in Maine was doing it.

I sold them some logs.
I have no idea what is going on now. When Central Maine Power,CMP was upgrading the high power lines, there was a big boom on these mats. The upgrade is all done in the areas that I see.
This was back in 2013.

I hear they are gearing up for the northern pass and some big gas line in the area

Pipe lines and power lines use lots of them here . Michels was having them trucked from as far as Florida. When they did a power line by us they laid them 2 deep for miles . still have broken ones laying in huge piles .

And with all that going on, I have a hard time getting W Oak saw logs. All going to the mat thing. ::)

Michels was working in Greenfield,Ma. on a improvement to a high tension line, I stoped and asked about the used-broken mats and they said they repair them and send them to the next site  >:( . There's a place in Winchester, N.H. sawing and building mats.
