I was given a rough looking walnut that surprised me by sawing out to a nearly clear 12x12x10'.  I sawed the cant to a 3x12 , 2ea 1.5x12 and the rest 4/4.  I've had a lot of interest on my local yard sale sites but no buys yet.  I'm asking $75 for the 3".  That about about 30 bdFt.  I think that's too cheap.  How would you price it?  Before I get jumped on.  I AM NOT SELLING IT HERE!!!  Just trying to set a price for my local market.

I am not that far from you and I sell mine for $5/bf. for good clear walnut. I don't sell them fast and just a board or two at a time to local woodworkers mostly making cutting boards and such. I'd sell the 3"X 12"  a fireplace mantel for between $250 to $300. $75 does not sound like a bad price if you want to move it. Price it for more if you are willing to hold on to it till the right customer comes by. Good luck.

I did save one at 3" x 12"  I may use it myself.  It is a pretty one

I think you are too low on$$  I'm in Central NY and I just moved 8/4 short stock (36" & 48") 6 and 8" wide for darn close to
WV Sawmiller's price,  air dried.

Get the Google machine up and search your local HW shops and tune your price against them.
Just because it was given doesn't make it any less valuable.
Time, fuel, labor.  Heck you could even surprise the person who gave it to you with a little $$ back!

I am at $8.00/bf for kiln dried 4/4 planed to 15/16" thick.  I sell a lot of it.  If it is green, it would sell for a good bit less.  Better if air dried.  Best if kiln dried and skip planed.  The price depends on the number of value-added steps.

Per the Hardwood Market Report, tractor trailer loads of rough, kiln dried, FAS, black walnut is selling for $4.10 per BF.

Thanks for the advice.  I have sawed and sold very little walnut.  I will adjust my pricing.

You probably made a better deal than the rest of us.

Pay $1-$1.25 for typical saw logs.  More for very long clean stuff.
Anything someone can design, I can sure figure out how to fix!
If I say it\\\\\\\'s going to take so long, multiply that by at least 3!
