I have found with the sawdust blower/vacuum hooked to the mill that there is less dust in the air around the mill. I dont go much without it hooked up.

Good luck on your hunt.

Thanks Paul.  :)

I second that. In a building a vac on the chute makes it much nicer. Before the vac, there'd be a big pile of dust to remove/ walk over at the end of the day. If you were sawing logs that weren't shedding bark, there'd be almost no dust on the ground with the vac.

We had all kinds of blowers I liked using the big 10 hp landscape leaf blower.  FF member getoverit used a big stationary leaf blower that gets bolted on a dump truck tailgate.  The most fun was once a week using a towbehind air comp.  I made up lots of pipe adapters for the 2 inch hose to get into all the right small spaces.

Hello,
Great info. Now where does the dust go? ( Yea the end of the pipe. ::))  What type of building do you have to store the chips or dust? How do you keep the dust in the building or bin?
Thanks

Who cares?  :D :D :D
I've got open farm land around me. A lot of sawyers I suppose try capture their sawdust I guess.
Mine will just pile up under the pipe and then be moved with the loader.

Under the blueberries and in the garden paths on top of cardboard till it breaks down and goes in the rows and a fresh layer goes down. I really like it under the blueberries, you can sit under there in the shade comfortably until you're full.

Its a DB500, 5HP, 220V.

Dave S, Won't the saw dust freeze in the pipe in the winter?
I been thinking about it too.

Not sure of what Dave's answer will be but it seems to me if you just turn the blower on it would clean itself out.

I've never even wanted to cut at that temp, but generally when it gets below 30° the el cheapo flex pipes start to stiffen up pretty bad.  In the past I would use cheap corrugated HF flex pipe and it would pop and rip apart.  I have since gone to lots of metal fixed pipe, and shorter runs of flex, with a higher quality brand and haven't had problems.

I believe that once the engine warms up, there is enough warm air being sucked in that the flex pipe actually loosens up and flexes more.

YellowHammerisms:

Take steps to save steps.

If it won't roll, its not a log; it's still a tree.  Sawmills cut logs, not trees.

Kiln drying wood: When the cookies are burned, they're burned, and you can't fix them.

Sawing is fun for the first couple million boards.
