North Wind, the bug starts the second you push pull crank or feed that saw through that first log.  You dont have to have a mill of your own to catch it. Just go visit one of your new fellow Forestry Forum members that has a mill and you will see. :)

We have several members with LT15's  One of the forum admins has one. "Kevin"  He has had some great adventures with it. Even put it on skis and pulls it into the bush by snowmobile.

THere are lots of choices out there and I think that any of the choices from one of the Forum sponsors to the left, would be a good one. All great compaines that will be there and here for you after you do make that choice.

Welcome to the Forestry Forum. :)
I can change my profile okay. No errors. If you can,t remove all the extra info in other fields and try.

What Jeff said! :)  There are a lot of small manual mills out there, and all of'em will saw a board.  It would be hard to go wrong with the lt15, or any of our sponsor's mills.  I think they're the "cream of the crop." :)

There is a special feeling involved when you make stuff out of your own lumber.  Taking it from the tree to the finished product just makes it that much more special.  Have fun! 8)

Welcome to the Forum!!

I think the LT15 is one of the least risk investments you can make – mill or otherwise.  If any are re-sold they're usually done "word of mouth".  There is always someone looking for a used LT15.  So... why not go for it?

The new model, with the counter balanced head, is truly easy to raise and lower and have positive stop marks.

He may not know it...... But Bibby's remarks on this board led me to look at ORANGE , got me a shiny new LT40HDG28 last year. It performs as advertised, even with the shiny spot on the log dogs ;D

Hay North Wind welcome to the forum.  I'm not sure where you are at but if your close to Indiana you can come over and try my LT-15 out for a day.  Mine is set up in the yard and I have plenty to run through it.  If you have any questions my email is listed in my profile.  I've had mine for almost 3 years now.
It is easy on the gas
easy to cut with and adjust up and down
best of all it is real easy to keep it adjusted for straight cutting.
you can't go wrong.  Good Luck

A few month's back, I too thought of getting the LT15, but I ran across a used LT40hyd for just a little more, mercy am I glad I bought it(the mill owner retired. He also sends me his customers that call him, that hadn't heard he retired) ;D )---------I was just going to build my own Cabin down by the lake with my own sawed lumber, then sale the mill, but You Get Hooked Quick. If you are not going to into the sawing business, then the 15 will be good for you------But Me----Shoot just yesterday and today I picked up 32 nice pine logs----------FREE------A few week's back I picked up 27, got some more to pick up next week----------Do you guys think I am Hooked? (I'm HOOKED 8) ) Sure am glad I got them Hydraulic's, now I saw for a few, but hadn't got to busy, so I can still cut for myself. Good Luck Randy

North Wind,
welcome to the forum, if you are thinking about it probably means you are addicted already, just showing the early outwards signs of the disease.

Later progression presents itself by talking to yaself about why you decided on the Lt15 and not a Lt40 or in my case a model 6 instead of a model 8 Lucas with 9"upgrade???

Ah well I'm afflicted for sure and even if the Doc could prescibe me those little white pills I wouldn't take 'em for the world - I like sawdust!!! ;) :D)

Welcome again
Always willing to help - Allan

My brothers father inlaw is a cabinet maker who i used to cut for... He has 52 acres of mixed hardwood, and harvests all his own logs and now saws his own lumber..
I let him saw with my LT 15 and he was hooked. He waited to long and I sold the LT15..  A few  months later he had a brand new one. LT15D 10 HP yahnmar Diesel.
He loves it. Cuts 3000-5000 BFD per year for his business....  100 % profit from his woodlot...  I can't say enough about the LT 15 for the PT guy or as an added tool  to a woodworking venture.  W/ Help I used to saw 1000 + bfd a day on the 15.. I now have an LT 40su36g. 1000+ bfd a day alone, I cut between 50,000 and 75,000 bfd per year. hwd +swd.....  Good luck  GO ORANGE !!  8)

PART TIMER:, thanks for the invite, we are presently staying with our daughter as so we can spend time with our new grandson which is presently located in columbus ohio.. talked with the wife and we might just take you up on that one of these weekends before or on the way back home, Montana, where I am normally a saddle builder also make tack and some harness work,  but when Im not doing that I work with wood. Will let you know if we get loose some weekend.
Too EVERYONE ELSE  I REALLY appreciate your warm welcomes and quick responses. I am not much with computers or typing , so I generally get my wife to type for me.  Most of the time I just sit back and read and try to learn from others conversations. BUt yall are so nice on this forum kind of makes me want to jump in once in awhile.  Have been trolloing through the other woodwork forums, and it seems all they want to do is argue with each other and try to put down someone or something, dont much care for any of that ;D
Once again THANKS for everybody's responses once again, I'll be trolling in the back ground..Im sure I will have lots of questions in the future..My wife says maybe my handle should be "Trolling" .......PS....I've noticed alot of folks in this forum have talked about draft horses, If I could be of any help with questions on harness ,please feel free to ask...Thanks,,,North WInd 8)

If you are going to be in Columbus Ohio for a short stay, you should look at the members map. There maybe
someone close right now.You could search the members list, or use the "find a sawyer" upper right of the page.

WH_Conley

I'm about ninty miles from Coulmbus, but I have an LT40.

Not saying you are wrong about an LT15, but you will probably outgrow it unless you pretty much refuse to saw for other people.
