Engine locked up

So our 24 hp onnan locked up today. Hss anyone done the woodmizer upgrade kit install ?

No help here but I am running same engine with 600hrs just wondering how many hrs you got out of yours ?

About 3 years ago, I removed the Onan 24hp engine from my mill and installed the Wood-Mizer 25hp Kohler!

The change-out went great, we removed the Onan and put the Kohler on and we were back to sawing in about 2-3 hours!

If you order the upgrade kit from Wood-Mizer, it will come with everything you need to do the swap-out!

EDIT: 7/28/18 The switch was made in July 2014

I did the change over and it worked better than the original engine (maybe because my onan was tired?). Woodmizer kit saved my but as I was in a pinch with orders due in short time.

I remember being impressed that my motor showed up in town next day after I ordered it. I think it took less than 2 hours to remove and reinstall.

Pjames engine has 2510hrs if meter is correct. Chuck and Paul thank you that's what I was needing to know. I'm calling to get a price quote this morning. Our mechanic is supposed to have us a rebuild quote tonight.

The Kohler conversion will likely be a lot cheaper than rebuilding the Onan and you get factory warranty. You will also be up and running more quickly.

Sorry to hear about the set back with the engine.

I've been through the same issue on equipment other than a sawmill and have not had good luck with the rebuilds. Once you figure parts and labor to rebuild and the down time on the mill, I suspect you will be approaching $2,000 maybe more.

Looking at the Wood Mizer site, the upgrade listed is $2,199.00. The upgrade would be the way I would go. In the time it takes to order and receive parts for the rebuild, the upgrade package could be on site - including a warranty.

Thanks Darrell if I get the service out of mine that yours got it will probably out last me!! got some saw dust to make,good luck with the upgrade or repairs what ever you decide.

The one big thing that I noticed was that the 25hp Kohler used HALF the gas that the Onan did!
I've never even came close to emptying my gas tank in a days sawing, since the Kohler was installed!

Update: we got the Kohler from woodmizer. Engine install went smoothly. Finally got an evening to saw and boy that old mill hasn't ran that good in at least 3 years.
