Basswood market.

Having a hard time finding a place to sell basswood lumber. Some say to sell to carvers, but dont know any. The stave mill used to buy 54 in logs but that even burned down. Cant use for lumber, wont hold a nail. Help, have lots but no place to go with it. Harold

Approximately 15 miles from me there is a store that caters to lumber buyers and I have consigned some basswood blocks to them.  It is a small market.

   I'd suggest look on line for local carver's clubs and contact them and see if they are interested. You might also check with beekeepers as I understand it is a desirable wood for building bee hives and supers and such because it is light weight. You might check local sporting goods places or leave flyers if they allow and see if there are any people there who carve duck decoys. Good luck. If you run out send them to me as I have about 1100 bf I just cut.

This lumber business is a lot more than just sawing timber into little pieces thats for sure. I am contemplating sawing some into lath for construction companies, but I think that might be a thing of the past too. Dont know if the surveyors use the poplar lathe anymore or not.

I am a beekeeper and basswood wouldnt hold together long. It dont hold a nail.
