I got a complete 83 c6d chassis sitting on my property right now, maybe i'll do something with it this spring.

cable? grapple? ....if you get tired of staring at it......a young iron hoarder has to start somewhere he he he  :D :D :D
for those who say "it cannot be done!" please do so quietly so as not to disturb those who are doing it.

They are a good old simple to work on skidder, but the old 518 cats are hard to beat to. I will say for the price of a cat 518 engine, converter, transmission overhaul ,you could buy 2 more c5 skidders !!! ;D The last guy i worked with is still running the 518 he bought new in the 70's and i know he has over 50,000 hrs on it. but 1 man ,1 skidder and service every 100 hrs. The tree farmers are the simplest old skidders out there. I got a complete 83 c6d chassis sitting on my property right now, maybe i'll do something with it this spring.
was only poking fun  :D  I will agree about the tranny and converter the parts aren't bad to buy and do your self but the labor getting it out is insane  loggah do you know if a direct injection motor will fit in an 81 with the glow plug style injector its a pita running my buddy's all winter with more power than needed then in the summer getting back on mine with half the power  ;D I have a chance to by DI motor from an 89 for 2grand with only 2000 hours  on it

Maine logger88

babec multi rings are a nice tight ring chain. My buncher has babec standard rings on it that work pretty well but when they wear out I'll replace with multi ring. My 540 had babec 1.5 diamond on front they have 4500 hours on them and are still pretty decent shape hopefully there ring chains last as well as the ice chains

glad to know that. when i looked up the build sheet on the machine it actually has the same axles and winch as a c6 and a 5 speed with one less jug on the motor and the 18.4-26's it should be pretty bomb proof. ;D. why are there not more of these things around? they are so much better made than a deere or cat....or is that part of it...shhhh dont tell anyone!!! im hoping by the time time i need to do chains again ill have a grapple skidder. a 3 wheel shear is next on the list though.
How'd you look up the build list out of curiosity? I've got a twin machine to yours that came out of NH. Only difference I can see is my rear apron is larger like a C6. I was told I have C6 axels too but I don't know how to tell the difference. I've got the 23.1x26 tires on mine and it's a little machine on a big undercarriage from the looks.
