To all you fellows sawing pine...obviously pine can be very dirty and sticky...especially in warm weather.....what do you use to remove pine pitch from clothing...something that plagues all of us in dealing with soft wood species.

I wear an welding apron, like a few others around here do.  Makes a huge difference.

I usually use Spray n Wash and OxiClean with the detergent and straight hot water with washer set on heavy duty wash. But it all doesn't come out! So go to the second hand clothing store for work clothes!!

I use to use powdered Tide and lots of cold water. I had one set of clothes that I would cut wood in. They got washed just about every day. I suppose you could use some hand soap and let that soak in for a while. But I only used Tide. But that was working in the woods too, cutting fir. But I still got covered with pitch.

I am one of the "others".  I believe that I am on my third leather welders apron in 17 years of sawing.  The apron also keeps the sawdust out of my pockets.  ;D

I realize that I didn't address your question, but "an ounce of prevention......"

Too hot for aprons and overalls.  I spray WD40 on my hands to dissolve resin.

That's one clean apron, looks more like it has been used for baking cookies rather than sawing them.  :D

I keep 3-4 changes of clothes in rotation, and they are my sawmill clothes!  :)

Might be hard to conceive at first, but MAYONNAISE will remove pine pitch from your hands!  ;)

I have to admit, I've used gasoline, diesel, WD-40, and probably a few others in the past!  ::)

Not clean now.  That cookie dough pine pitch is rough on it.

Butter also falls into that category.

Rita uses orange glo hand cleaner on a pair of chaps that got cut an can't be used for woods work anymore.

Rubbing alcohol is very effective in removing pine pitch from hands, clothing or vehicles.

Try mayonnaise.  Most of my shirts from the manual mill days, reaching across the cant/log to clamp and unclamp are still stiff from the sap but I think mayonnaise will get it out.

Washing soda used to be used by sharpening shops to soak the pitch offthe blades before they were sharpened. Easy enough to try and will get your clothes cleaner to boot!
