I just found a Farmi JL 306 available near me. I've looked all over online and I can't seem to find much info about the 306. I'm mostly curious if it will be a fit for my tractor (Long 510 4x4). Tractor data rates the 510 pto at just below 50hp. Does anyone have any idea if that's in the JL 306's rated range?

I have a Normet tagged JL306 on 34hp kubota, pulls like the dickens. Should be no worries snag it if price is right! I do have a paper manual and maybe PDF version will try to dig up for you

Thanks. The seller said he sets his 70 hp tractor at idle and it runs it fine. The tag on this one says Normet as well as Farmi. He's asking $1500, which I think is fair. I don't really want to buy new and I can't even find an overpriced used one in my area.

Sounds like a good deal. Is that the model that has 2 legs for supports? Just be careful of it, if it does. Get one leg that will dig in, the other does not, that will turn that tractor sideways.
I run mine at a fast idle, works good.
I made up some short chains for my winch, 4 footers. I use them more than the 8 foot ones. I ran 6 slides on my winch. Sometimes all 6 are used, sometimes only one is used.
Don't pull at a sharp angle, you could roll the tractor over, set your brakes and lower the loader to the ground.
Watch what is coming at you. I've had dead poles try to take me off my feet. Should have a rope for the controls,6 feet long. Use it to get away from the tractor. I've had my slide by me a few times.  :o
Don't look behind you too long. That front end could be coming up and you would not know it.
I don't twitch out much long stuff, 40 feet. Get something just about all the tractor wants behind you and the end of that 40 foot tree comes up against something, it might stop you. Than you have to back up and set over. Just as easy to cut that 40 foot tree in half and use 2 chains on it to make two 20 foot trees.
If doing firewood, I put short pieces of wood under the tree to keep it off the ground.
Put a rolling hitch on to the logs. Meaning put the hook close to the ground, so the log will roll as it is pulled. Helps out with limbing too. If a rolling hitch is done right, the part that was on the ground should be up in the air and you can saw off the limbs you missed. Helps out on the stubs too. Those thing can dig in and really make a mess of a trail.

It is the model with the two legs. I'm not crazy about that part of it now that you've brought it to my attention. I'll have a lot to learn about getting logs out of the woods if I get this one. Thanks for all the tips. I guess I'm concerned that it may only rated up to 40 hp. Maybe it wouldn't even be an issue. But I'd rather my tractor be in the middle of the rated range as opposed to the top.

I think the tractor and winch will work well together. That winch is probably in the 7k pulling capacity range.

These people might have more info for you,

I don't think the legs would really be a deal breaker. I have no idea what a new one cost now,$4000??  Could always add some metal across the logs.
No idea really what size your tractor is, weight and hp compared to that winch. The winch I have is really on the top size for my size tractor. It's a little bit big in weight.

If the concern is winch being too small for your tractor: ran on my 47hp Belarus for a season in deep snow pulling max 24" hardwood cut to length in the woods and some decent white pine. Broke the tractor plenty but never the winch. Try not to abuse my equipment because I rely on it but do work it hard.. previous owner also ran on 50ish hp since the 80s and seemed to really put it to work as well.

Do have an old full trip snow plow to cut down and flip over for a hinged butt plate to replace the legs. They have not caused any trouble just would like to have a push blade on rear when winch is on, which is pretty much always except a few times a year to run brush hog.

Do yourself a favor and weld a receiver hitch on main cross beam for sure. The literature says it has legs so as to not interfere with drawbar but have found receiver hitch incredibly handy and it was the first thing I did after buying the winch.

X2 on receiver.

Dont get caught up in the details.  Run what ya brung and keep your foot on the clutch.  Youll be fine.

Norse has it all figured out with a hinged butt plate.

Well I went and had a look at it this morning. Everything seems functional. I think I may go pick it up later this week. Thanks for all the help everyone.

I think mine is a JL 306. It has skidded a lot of wood behind a 70hp tractor and I've never had an issue with it. Been in the family since new and other than cable, u-joints, and clutch adjustments nothing has been done to it.
