I am looking to by a wood chipper, primarily to chip Douglas fir branches and the first outer cut with bark off the logs.  I have a 57 HP Kubota tractor, so probably want to go with a PTO driven chipper.  Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.  Monte

If I had the money, I would get a Wallenstein BX72r or BX72ri. 7x12 chipping capacity, and the ri version automatically adjusts feed speed based on the PTO RPM. Since I didn't have that large of a budget, a got the Woodmaxx 9900. It has a 9 inch capacity and makes good chips, just not suitable for slabs. I just have to be careful with feed speed depending on the size what I feed it or it will bog down the tractor, which has 37.5 PTO Hp.

I have an Echo bearcat chipper with hydraulic feed and reverse.  It's not a PTO unit, but towable.

If there is one thing I can steer you towards that will make you want to use it over and over again is the hydraulic feed.  It adds so much safety and keep a person from overworking themselves trying to stuff branches in.

I too have a hydraulic pto driven Bearcat 9" on a 54hp tractor. Works very well and just eats all day
