PatD and I were visiting friends in Port Huron in 1995 and also visited the Ford Museum.  It was a very worthwhile experience and it is huge.  :o

We wanted to visit Kellogg's but at that time it was closed for tours.  It "sorta" reopened from 1998 until 2007 but there are no tours available now.  Only virtual.

For those first timers coming from the east you should stop at Tony's I75 Diner for some Bacon, this has been discussed here in the past. You will also probably be going past a Cabelas store in MI, worth a stop if you have never been in one.

Yes, I spent a week there one day. No actually it was a week, back in the 80's we did a tool show in Detroit, but stayed across the river in Windsor (the border crossing took less than 5 minutes in those days). But as we would just be passing through, I might consider it. Henry had a big influence on my career.
Looks like they have several things in the complex besides the one place. Thanks Dan, I guess I will give it a closer look.
No kidding!  I went to the Henry Ford museum while on a business trip to Troy.  Could get lost in there for days, easy.  Haven't been able to get to Greenfield Village yet, but really want to check it out too.

No, but we are trying to make sure we get a spot and encouraging others to do the same. ;D They have LOTS of vacancies now and I always read about guys scrambling to find a place, now is the time. And If you think about the pandemic issues, this is a good way to support a local family owned business. I am sure they have concerns about making a good season out of it. Just my point of view. I also know it makes the bosses life easier when he knows how many are committed. The three of us are doing long hauls, so I guess we just want to be sure.

Um make that 39 Doc. Jill just got our reservations. The lady looked up what pull thru we had the last time we were there and gave us the same spot again because the trailer is 40'.  She told Jill they can't wait for the pig roast.
See you all there. We'll be in on the 5th some time.

I'm afraid that may be my fault. ;D I mentioned why we were coming and that got us off on a conversation and next thing you know, it looks like I will be begging to some leftovers to bring back to them. :D
That's puts us at 4 in that campground. 4 more and we all get a discount.

We took them a care package of pork last time we were there. They told us back then that they were well aware of the Forum Pig Roast.
Absolutely fantastic people and a great place to stay.

I'm staying 6 nights, so that got me a weekly rate which gave me one night free.  If I had stayed 7 nights I would have gotten 2 nights free.  There won't be any more discount than that, but hopefully some others can get a discount.

Sounds like a free night is a bigger discount than the group discount. Win either way I think. Yes, they seem like really nice folks. Looking forward to this for many reasons.

I got that, I just couldn't resist.
I spent my time in NE Detroit over 30 years ago, and it was just a very long week. Not a great area, but a long time ago. Detroit has gotten worse from what I read. Dearborn is within Detroit from what I see on the map, but is SW of the city center. I have no idea what the area is like. No judgements here. But the $40/head cost to get in the museum kind of set me back a bit. It's not off the list, but I am thinking hard on it. On the way in I know me and will just want to get there, on the way home it might be a nice option. But I really would like to see some of the manufacturing history, that's my interest. He was a true genius.

If you have time, in addition to the museum and Greenfield Village, a tour of the Ford River Rouge plant is well worth it.  By the time I got there it was entirely dedicated to producing the aluminum based F-150s.  I assume that is still the case.  But at one time they would literally take in the raw materials for making a car at one end and finished cars would roll out the other.  I'm talking iron ore for the steel, sand for the glass, vats of latex sap for the tires, etc.  No more, but the history of that facility is really interesting.

Everything south of Clare is Detroit to me. Not for me. Point me North please.

so happy to see this thread. I am so sick of this paranoid freakout lock down the world cr*..

Just for you guys thinking about going through the border crossings. DON'T!!!! last time I tried for the last pigroast it added about 4.5 hours to the trip sitting in the stupid lines to get through.
Yeah, in the high traffic areas you'd hit long wait times. I've always crossed between Ontario and MI at Saulte St Marie and never waited more than 20 mins. during the best of times. But that route doesn't make any sense for anyone in the US travelling. I never have any traffic the whole way except in Montreal and Ottawa and now Montreal can be by-passed altogether. Well, so can't Ottawa, but I usually lodge in Ottawa, and it has by favorite woodworking store. ;D

Thanks Jeff.  I do not like to eat trout either, but they are one of my favorite to catch.
What!!?? Those are delicious fish fried in a pan with good butter. I was raised on brook trout and Atlantic salmon. My goodness. :)
I don't mean the farmed stuff, that will make anyone puke.

I always take the wall tent and stay at Hidden Hill, just a short ways below Jeff's. The showers and bathroom is clean, that's all that matters. ;D The gentleman that runs the place has his #$% together. ;)

However, do not go to the State park, the facilities are umm...........hahahaha you're on your own bud. :D :D
I'll need my shots and an open border before I go anywhere west of here. We have closed borders with provinces to, except we can travel to PEI and NS, but only since Friday. ;)

I am hopeful and have a feeling things will open up a whole lot between now and August. I was talking about Booneville this morning with my buddy which is the week after, but the Pig Roast is the same weekend as my buddies annual Thank God We're Alive party, which has has had for about 15 years running now, He is a tad ticked at us for missing it. Oh well,  I can't make everybody happy now can I?
I hope the border opens and we get to see our friends from the great frozen north (as MM likes to say). :D
