I need to get new line for my old Farmi 306. It's 3/8". Not sure what to get. I don't know if swaged is appropriate for this application, but it seems to behave better than some wire rope I've seen on small winches. Has anyone bought new line for their pto winch?

I'm not at ALL familiar with that winch, but, almost all of the PTO winches that I have seen should have a minimum of 1/2" on them because of the use that they get.

I hope that this helps.

I think I use 3/8. I buy mine from Labonville. It's just a every day cable, not swaged. Use to be the best price that I could find.
I would not use ½ inch. My Father thought it would be better to use, so we bought it. What a bother!!!! The drum is too small and the wire is too sniff to stay on the drum when the wire is released. We was chasing birds nest a lot. The cable did not last long. We went back to 3/8.
I really never had any trouble with the 3/8, as long as don't get a birds nest from foul winching. But as long as I pay attention all is good. Kinda like sawing into a log stop. It's going to happen.  :)

I didn't realize the winch was that small. My mistake 🤷‍♂️

I had to replace the line on my Farmi winch shortly after I bought it due to my mistake.  I went to a rigging company for mine.  They fabricate web and wire rope slings so I figured they would be the best place to go.  All wire rope is not the same.  They had definate opinions on the quality coming from different countries.

So I would buy your cable from the winch supplier or a rigging company.  I would be very leery of buying it off the shelf or on line from anywhere else.

Hud-son forest products in Barneveld NY has 3/8" x 165' (also 235' for their Uniforest Winches) for $200. I believe they will ship also. Your profile didn't state your location so I don't know if that will work for your.  Had this cable on my winch for 7-8 years now.  No complaints.

I would follow CFamers advice. When I needed to replace mine I didn't. I went with the thought The heaver the better for less breakage. It was a problem  with it coming lose on the winch when only pulling out part of the line. A couple of months latter I bought a3/8 cable an have been glad I did :D :D

It'll be 3/8". That's what is on it, and it has a fairly small drum diameter.
