Since you seem to lean towards the CSM scene, you should purchase one, and get some experience with it.  The above advice will ring true to you then.

I think I have been convinced to not get a CSM. Now I just need to narrow down my options for bandmills and swingers and hopefully find one that doesn't have a 3 to 6 month lead time. Thanks for everyone's input. I really appreciate it.

:D :D :D :D :D :D HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Sorry, couldn't help it. I know you are a newer member and I shouldn't do that, but I just could not contain myself. You may want to use the search tool here to look for the threads on sawmill lead-times. For many brands 3-6 months isn't even thinkable for another year or more into recovery. Do a little reading on other threads and you will get a better idea. . I think jut about every brand has been mentioned in recent weeks. Best of luck.

I still have my old Alaskan. I have fond memories of it.  I called it the "Puker" because I would push it, day after day, until my stomach started cramping and I thought I'd vomit. 😃
In the first day with my little 15hp LT15, I'd cut more wood than all the time of my CSM combined.

YellowHammerisms:

Take steps to save steps.

If it won't roll, its not a log; it's still a tree.  Sawmills cut logs, not trees.

Kiln drying wood: When the cookies are burned, they're burned, and you can't fix them.

Sawing is fun for the first couple million boards.

Be smarter than the sawdust

Sorry but add one year to that 3-6 month lead time and you will have a realistic time estimate.  I was quoted a two month lead time on a box of blades today.  ::)

Look at the used market where you'll have the other timeline problem-meaning you'll need to be an early arrival.

There's a WM LT15 with an October due date at mfg.'s price point on there yesterday, or day before.
 Patience! ;D
FB Marketplace WM Group saws pop up fairly often. I've never looked in the Marketplace itself but likely more are found there. CL is yet another place as is ebay and here on the FF.

On blades, I would think one potential solution for now is to find a saw sharpening shop with band material on hand?

If you really need something sooner than later and can't find anything used, I'd email Norwood and explain your needs, requirements, etc. They will give you a good idea of what they can do for your budget and timeline. I ordered my mill April 27th, took delivery of it June 1st.
Keep doing your homework, make the best decision for you and what you have in mind, have fun along the way.

So just for everyones info:
I called Norwood in Ontario, the lead time on a HD36 is 16-18 weeks.
Logosol which is sold by Sylvana in Quebec is 14-16 weeks for the B751Pro
Woodmizer in BC will not have an LT15 available until summer of 2022
D&L sawmill in BC which makes a really nice swing blade mill is 14-16 weeks.

If you can wait the 14-18 weeks, and you like one of those options, you might end up finding out they can get it done a little faster.
If you can't wait that long, and you don't mind a manual mill, Norwood makes the smaller LM30.
Might be a good fit if you are ok with manual and don't need to cut anything bigger than 30" around.

Only other company with shorterish lead times would be Woodland Mills I believe. Not sure if they're still quoting end of Summer delivery.

No matter what you pick, you'll be glad you have the opportunity to mill what you want, when you want.
