Most of my customers can't wait to get their lumber once it's done.  Usually they're there to pick it up within hours, or at the most a day or two.  One of my regulars, on the other hand, will let lumber sit dead stacked at my place for weeks at a time before picking it up.  Not only that, but it is the father of the guy that gives me almost all of my logs, so I cut him a deal on the lumber to boot  :-\  I can't remember the last time he's picked lumber up that wasn't covered in mildew/mold.  The current stack has been sitting at my place for two weeks now, and since flat ground is rather scarce at my place, it doesn't take long to get in the way.

Is anyone charging customers a fee for lumber that sits for a while?  I was thinking maybe ten or twenty bucks a week after the first week.  Any thoughts  ???

If he is a regular customer I would explain it to him just like you did us and I bet he would be more responsive. If not deliver it to him and charge him dilevery
Two LT70s, Nyle L200 kiln, 4 head Pinheiro planer, 30" double surface Cantek planer, Lucas dedicated slabber, Slabmizer, and enough rolling stock and chainsaws to keep it all running.

Ohso.. I know what your mean.  I have lumber that has been here for at least 4 years.   this guy brought in these toothpicks and wanted lumber.  I produced the lumber and after 6 months finally got the payement sent.  He is a traveling cowboy poet.   It is hard to catch him at home.  So what should I do?  I know the boat and you're situation, well. ;D

I've delivered it for free just to get the space back.  Besides, I feel a lot better when it molds dead stacked on their property, and not mine.

Time to call him up and have a converstion. He wants his wood, you need it out of your yard. Since you know he is always late picking it up, figure how much you would need to deliver, sticker and stack his lumber at his place. You are doing hima service and he should be happy to pay for this service. Good chance to do a sales job on him.

The funny thing is, about a year ago he bought a pickup truck so he could haul his own lumber.  Then he went out and bought a 5th wheel camper  ::)  Just ran into him this morning...said he should be over tomorrow  :-\  I really don't want to charge him for the money, but to get him off his butt to pick it up.
