We look forward to watching the Olympics, both Summer and Winter.

PatD and I were volunteer workers at the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta.

We certainly were not competitors but wearing our uniforms and doing our assigned jobs was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity/experience.  We had an opportunity to work the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, but reluctantly declined.

Anyway, we enjoy watching the athletics put their hearts into the various competitions.  Go USA !!!

Always enjoy the Winter Olympics. Heard the other day the Jamaican bobsled team was making a comeback this year.

We have been watching and enjoying every night but it's mostly just a fascination for us since we have never been around any Winter activities or snow.

Shaun White was the only name that I knew and I was disappointed that he goes home empty handed.  He had a good run since 2006 but Mother Nature, Father Time, plus the younger bucks took him out of the competition.

I always like to watch all olympics, but I am partial to the winter variety, since I love snow and am a skier myself.  In fact, I"m watching skiing right now.  I really like to watch curling and really want to try it sometime.  They do it in the St Louis area, but I havent made it to one of the "Learn to Curl" sessions.
I always remember the catch phrase from the Olympics when I was a kid, "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat".  They don't use that anymore, but it was never more true.

Wasn't that ABC's "Wide World of Sports" that used that line? I always identified with the skier they showed tumbling down the hill as the narrator said, "the agony of defeat"😂

Yes it was Wide World of Sports-The human drama of athletic competition.  Vinko Bogataj of Yugoslavia was the ski-jumper who epically crashes in the video.

I wish they had that snow boarding stuff when I was a kid.  I did a lot of skateboarding.

Watching the Olympics, both varieties, has been a tradition since I was a kid.  My mom enjoyed watching and I guess I get it honestly.  Emily and I commented last night at how refreshing the smiles of the athletes are.  Most seem to be in the moment and really be enjoying themselves.

Two exciting downhill races with the USA placing Gold and Gold in the Men's and Women's events.  To show what I don't know about Winter Sports, I have no idea what the event's name was but it was exciting to see us with two first place winners.

EDIT: The event was "Snowboarding".

And yet again the women's hockey final will be sooo boring. Canada and the US are once again going to take home Gold and Silver. (Probably in that order, too ;D).

I know nothing about any of the Winter Sports and certainly have never actually seen any of them but I have enjoyed watching every night.  Sadly tonight is the last night of competition so I wonder what I might watch next week.

Our Olympic Athletics have done very well and proudly represented the USA.  I am also proud of our Canadian Athletics.

I volunteered at  the Pre Olympic Womens Downhill Race for 6 days back in 2009 in Whistler Canada. It was an Amazing 6 days on the mountain, we were in charge of 1 section, 3 gates, on one of the steepest parts of the course, we had to strap crampons on our ski boots to be able to rake and shovel snow, fix the safety netting. It was so steep and icy most of us could not ski it.
The sound the wind made as the Women raced by, was something I will never forget.
I did not volunteer for the actual Olympic race as it was going to cost me close to $15,000 to get there and for accomondations for the month they needed us to volunteer.

PatD and my opportunity to serve as volunteers was a "once in a lifetime" opportunity and experience.  Sadly I found out after we got to Atlanta that I could have served as a Torch Runner somewhere along the way as the Torch was carried all of the way across the US.  That plus I could have bought the Torch that I carried.  It was simply a miscommunication.

All Olympic Athletics are winners in my book whether they brought home a medal or not.  They still have a lifetime of memories although some are bittersweet.

My sons live next door to and three doors down from a family of winter Olympians... namely the McDonald brothers from Skeleton and Bob Sled competition and coaching. After the recent ice storm I cut up a bunch of storm damaged trees and branches for my sons and for them... Shortly after that I watched some of the Skeleton runs and cannot imagine going 80 mph head first, really face first, down the track!

My sister won a silver medal iirc in '80. Skiing in the downhill.

Care to explain?  Did I miss something with the contestants?

OK, I searched and found it.  I may highly disagree with the actions of others, but that does not diminish my support for the USA team contestants.

I support the USA athletes, they have spent a lifetime preparing for this.  Not their fault.

I see that Team USA picked up our first medals for the games.  Two Silver Medals in the women's synchronized 3-meter springboard event.
