Buried at the bottom of a clear cut were these chains from a broken set. I've tried to find a modern day equivalent - I don't think there is any such thing. I took a file to one of the teeth. Yup, the file would bite but I think these are like wear resistant teeth on a bucket.

1/2" twisted links and the studs are 1/2". The thimble between the studs and the links is 5/8" dia. That would be a hefty spot welder.

Those are "Trygg" brand ice chains, looking at the side link they probably went to an overgrown farm tractor and not a skidder. Someone got smart and left them down by the creek where they belong, I've never liked them especially on a big skidder.

Thanks for the ID. I couldn't find anything like them.

It was a strange find. There were no broken links. Its like thery were parted out to fix broken links. There is a lot of rock in the area and the only ice would be in the wheel ruts of the logging trails in winter. I keep chains on the tractors and atv/utv year around because they never see hard surface. Sure, they wear out faster but I have this procrastination problem about chaining a rig until its too late.

Question: what was the usage or other problem?
