I have a customer stopping by tomorrow that wants me to resaw some 20' long, 24" wide teak planks that he has.  They are fully dry; probably around 12% - 15% MC.  Apparently the resawn pieces will be used on a boat that's being worked on in a ship yard in NC.

Usually I would use my dedicated 16" resaw / carbide band bandsaw, but his planks are too wide for it so my only option is to use the Baker sawmill.

I've never resawn teak before, and am wondering if there anything special that I need to know before just throwing them up on the sawmill and resawing them?  I'm using Kasco 7/40 bands.

I've sent Teakwood on the FF a PM but figured that I'd enquire amongst the membership as well.

Thanks!

I would probably start with putting more tension in the blade than normal and turning the lube off. Your lube will make the sawdust swell and this will put more friction on the blade, causing heat and expansion of the blade.

I've sawn teak logs but never resawn when dry. It often has a lot of silica, you're likely going to miss the carbide teeth on your resaw.
The quickest way to make a million dollars with a sawmill is to start with two million.

If that is the case, I would be ordering some carbide blades for the mill.

Many thanks for the advice.  I took the time to really dial in the mill beforehand, and used a new Kasco 7/40 band.  The cuts went well.
