Ok so it has nothing to do with wood, except for the sticks.

If only the NHL owners and players could get into the spirit of things like this we might be able to watch hockey again on saturday nights. Man those guys are tough!
Crazy enough to try it! (once)

SwampDonkey

Devo, I seen that too on TV. What a cool tournament.  8)

With the same token, have you folks not heard of our World Pond Hockey Championships?

I competed in the 17 annual NHL invitational just this past weekend :)
My team went a perfect 0 and 3 again this year :D   Oh by the way in this instance NHL stands for Negaunee Hockey League  ;D  Teams from Wisconsin ,Upper Peninsula Of Mi. and Canada competed .

Log-it-up

I did want to start a new thread so I'm sweeping the dust of an old one but some pretty good play off hockey going on in the NHL across the board

sawguy21

An Australian football team were touring the U.S. and attended an NFL game. A reporter asked what they thought of it, the captain replied " Nice uniforms and all that but we was just up in Canada watching hockey. Now that's a MANS game"  :D I have pretty much lost lost interest in it during the regular season but like to watch the playoffs, it is a whole new season. It gets intense.

I used to live near an NHL team center and the FIL had a share in season tickets, plus there were more than a few seats tossed my way from tool salesman before it was looked on as being a 'sales bribe' (it was not for me anyway). I saw a loot of games, but that was the late 70's and when the NHL expanded we started calling it an 80 game 'pre-season'. Stuff didn't really matter until you hit the playoffs. I can't rememebr how many teams were eliminated during the rugular season, but it wasn't many. After that, it got exciting.  I went to a half dozen Stanley cup final round games in several seasons and being a final game for the win was something I will never forget. But then we moved away, and the team moved to another arena and watching it on TV was not the same. I still catch a few good games on TV during the playoffs. Good hockey, well played, is a thing of beauty. But I miss guys like Bobby Nystrom, Chico Resch, and that Wayne guy from up north with all the flair. ;D

Edit to add: Now you guys have me watching the Devils/Rangers game, what we would call a subway series around here, and I have no idea were we are in the brackets, but it's April, so we can't be too far into it yet. Division playoffs still?

That guy with flair has been reduced to selling hockey cards at Tim Horton's. :D

Never followed it at all the whole season. It's funny, I never knew anyone in my area that ever did. :D Dad might have watched a game now and then, but never followed it too close. In fact if you ask most anyone a hand will go up and wave you off, with a reply like: 'I never watch it, no interest in it'. I guess I do know one old couple in their 80's that do, only because their grand kids play locally. :D :D The game around here was basketball, not hockey. The town school had one of the best high school teams around in the 70's. No high school in town now.

Been catching some of the games. Now that they are in the finals, I caught the opener. These are both 'expansion teams' and I don't really know them. I will say the first game was pretty good hockey and exciting. But this game, as of the second period is pretty much a blow out and I am not seeing 'good hockey' played by one team.
Is anybody else watching these games?

Tom, I only watched about 5mins of game 2.  Once my Bruins were eliminated, I guess that ment I could start my offseason too?

I really enjoy watching hockey, and LOVE playoff hockey, but I was in a work funk this winter and didn't really get into it. With abit of luck, I'll have a new job for next winter, back to a happy Matt, and maybe then I can cheer my B's past the first round of the playoffs!

I do not watch as much as I did when I was younger and there was a good chance that Toronto might win..... now they have a rough time making it the playoffs. They are #1 money making franchise. Guess they don't really need to win for people to watch them

I watched half of both games, the first one was pretty good and from what I saw before I shut things down on game 2 it was a decent game, not so much for Florida. First time I've tuned into the nhl in 5-6 years. I was a big nhl fan pre 2012ish, didn't miss much.

That game last night turned into a 7-zip blowout. I went to bed around the middle of the second period. I didn't see real good hockey last night. From what I could see, Florida just played worse than Vegas and didn't get the breaks, whereas Vegas got some breaks and then Florida crumbled pretty much. Your view may vary. After the first game I thought this would be a good matchup, which kept my interest, but now it does look that way. I just like to see two good teams play good heads-up hockey. Watching a team get steamrollered is no fun.
I really miss the Islanders of the 80's coached by Al arbor. They would set up plays like a machine and it was a beautiful thing to watch, like poetry on the ice. :D

Ya, I remember the Islanders beating the North Stars in the Stanley Cup. It's wasn't pretty. Plett had his way with our guys.

I guess my standards have lowered from watching the habs games for years lol

I checked their roster and I don't even recognize anyone except price and Gallagher and price is probably done

Old Greenhorn

WPJ, you are better off than me. I don't know ANY of these players anymore. :D But I was in the house for the Islanders Cup final game in 1980 and I will remember that experience for the rest of my life. I went to a few of the final's games over the following three years and caught one more clincher. Very exciting stuff, and 4 cups in a row was pretty spectacular. Back the I knew a lot of the players, their styles, habits and skills. ABout the time I was fading away from it toward raising a family and taking care of 'life', there was a new kid coming up in Edmonton that was getting all the attention. Guy named Gretsky and he was fun to watch, kind of like a figure skater in the hockey world. ;D He was fast and had great instincts, but wasn't much of a fighter. ;D Now I see he is doing commentary work. Oh Well, life goes on and we all get older.
I'll try to catch some of Thursday's game, but if it's a rollover, I guess I will be done.
