Good Morning and Welcome to the Forestry Forum. I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question but I'm sure some of the guys up your way will be able to help you as soon as they see your post. There are members here from all over the states and all over the world. Look around and do some reading while your waiting. There's a wealth of knowledge hidden in these pages.

What sort of volume of logs are you trying to market? Tens of thousands of board feet of logs or a couple flat bed trailer loads?   Their may be members with mills close enough that would be interested buyers. Some rules apply to that sort of thing.....also,  welcome to the group.

Are you logging your own property or someone elses? I can tell you many mills in Mi, will require you to have proof of workman's comp to buy your logs, of you are logging anything other than your own logs on your own property.
I can change my profile okay. No errors. If you can,t remove all the extra info in other fields and try.

Here in NY if you have no employees you are exempt from workman's comp, here is what MO says

QuoteMissouri Employers are required to carry workers' compensation insurance if they have five or more employees.  Missouri Employers involved in the construction industry are required to carry the coverage if they have one or more employees.  This applies to all employers, regardless of whether the employees are part-time/casual laborers, full-time, or family members.
Members of an LLC and officers of a corporation apply towards this employee count, sole proprietors and members of a partnership do not.
I guess that doesn't mean the mills can't turn you away, though :o

Not sure what part of Central MO you're in, but there's a place in Union MO called Ohio Log Trading.  I don't know anything about them, but drive past there very often.  Otherwise, I would contact the Missouri Dept. of Conservation for information.

A lot of mills do require WC insurance regardless of what state law says as it protects them in the event the contractor gets hurt on the mill property.

If you were to trip over and break your ankle walking into their office to pick up your check it would count as a workplace accident on their site, and the mill could be considered liable. If you have your own insurance cover, then your insurance covers you, and the accident probably wont affect their cover.

In MN mills require you to show proof of insurance, workers comp if you have employees, and membership in the MLEP program that is training for logging best practices.

I'd second contacting your state Forestry department. They should have contact info for mills, and the mills will tell you what their requirements are.
