I have a 2006 LT40 Hd with a Kohler command 750 Efi. My problem is the governor will not kick in when under load. I installed a tachometer so I could check if I had a problem like I thought. Any ideas on what to check. I checked and replaced the throttle cable. I am getting the right hi and low rpm readings. Rod

MH, I respectfully disagree. She is working dang hard.... against all the taxpayers in this state and t ensure we have a dark future to look forward to.

Sorry you guys beat me to it, but I had a couple of other states in mind as well.   ffsmiley

Do you have a damaged spring on that governor? I know I had spring issues with the predator I recently divorced from my mill. No idea how that Kohler is set up.

That has the mechanical governor, right?

The "right low rpm" is a setting. As such doesn't infer governor integrity.

The "hi RPM" is correct when the throttle is at speed?  That doesn't seem right if the governor is faulty.

The throttle cable pulls the governor control via a spring.  The governor is driven by engine speed. When spring pull and governor speed are balanced the throttle should hold the engine at the correct governed speed. There is an *unloaded hi speed stop limit for the governor.  When the governor is working properly, the throttle will be opened less under no or light load.  As the engine is loaded the throttle will be pulled wider open by the governor linkage lever and throttle rod.

Need to check the clamp for the governor shaft to governor lever.  If the shaft has slipped in that clamp the governor may go so far out of adjustment it will not work properly. If the governor lever is NOT being *powered by the shaft, the governor has internal damage.  Put the throttle at full speed and check that the governor lever holds the throttle wide open. Start the engine and note whether the governor lever *fights the lever when it is pulled against the spring by hand.
