Very  interesting. Since it's stiffer, I wonder if it is more brittle than the original board it was made from.

Probably.  What the article does not delve into is the various strengths of steel.  The article mentions tensile strength, but not yield.  Plus depending upon grade steel tensile strength can vary from 50 to 130 KSI, more or less.

Still it will be interesting to see how this develops.
