We couldn't figure out where to start cutting so we just gave up!  ;)
Actually we were trimming some Wilma damage out of this nice Banyan yesterday. I thought some of you might enjoy seeing what a big south Florida tree looks like.

There used to be one about that size over in Ft Pierce on the east coast.  It played catcher for a couple of big pines in the hurricanes last year and they chopped it up getting the pines out.  Eventually they cut the banyan down too.

That one looks like it did pretty good in the storm.

I seen one similar to that in Cypress Gardens or Busch Gardens, I forget. It had a huge trunk and large limbs with descending roots into the ground. It was, in my opinion, a beautiful site, too others it my have looked ugly. But I was amazed at what nature can produce.  :)

Tom and I grew up on North 11th Street in Fort Pierce.  Over on the corner of 12th street and Orange Avenue was a vacant lot with a huge banyan tree.  We used to climb it quite a bit, but the sap would make our hands black and get all over our clothes.  We used to collect the sap and make rubber balls.

It's not as big as the one with the tree house at Disney World but that one (Disney's) would be pretty hard on sawblades ;) :D ;D 8)

We found initials carved into this one up where the guy with the saw is! I imagine this one has been climbed by may generation of kids. The biggest one in the US is about 6 blocks away at the Edison Winter Estate. I'll try to get a photo of it next week.
