OLD JD,

Quality is SOOOOOOOOOO critical. Franks stuff looks top notch and Big Leaf is half as heavy as quality Cherry here on the right sided of the US, which put us at a distinct disadvantage. Also cherry tends to get voids and such which greatly degrades the burl.  Don't plan on gettin rich is what seems to be the case here.

Old-jd,
Of course, the longer you hold on to it the less it will wieght form drying out.
As a turner, I buy burl in dimentioned sizes - with special shaped pieces priced accordingly.  A premium should be placed on larger pieces.

I just set aside a section of cherry that I think might have a decent burl in it, some of the opposite side of the approx 9" log is rotted but the burl looks solid. I'll find out after maple season. How should I try to saw it?  My assumption is to cut level with the burl face and might make two cuts, 1 at the top of face to about where the indented center becomes solid and then from there to maybe 4-6" thick. It will most likely be all in a 6" slab I guess.
