QuoteGiven the state's current regulatory and environmental climate, Holmes said, "One conclusion is inescapable: it is no longer prudent to make forestry investments in California."

This pretty much says it all.  No wonder why about half of the Foresters I know are unemployed or under employed around here.

Soper- Wheeler owns most of thier lands in the central Sierras.  They have been around for about 100 years.

The whole story.

I'm passing the article on to my freinds.  Kind of sad when proper forest management is not allowed.

Also sad that a state's population is so narrow minded they are willing to bit the hand that has fed them.
Somebody remind me why California is such a great place ??? ::) ???

Uh, the weather?  Then again, they have more problems with landslides and flooding than I do in the totally awesome state of WI.  In some places in California, the same house in a town in WI (value $200k) could be as much as 4-5 times as much.

So now, what do you think of the idea of planting the redwoods in New Zealand? They are such a magnificent tree, that I do like the idea of sliding them into another niche.  lw

It will be interesting to see how the trees progress.  We need some input from the Kiwis on this.  It is my understanding that any money generated for commerce within NZ has to stay in NZ.

It is that kind of problems in the North half of the state that wants to separate from the South half as being the director of what they do up North.  We have some of the same sorts of thinking here in Oregon.  A couple three metro areas telling the rest of the state how to run their lives. Only a couple of counties gave us the our new Gov.   :'(
