I've seen the pics of upstate NY on the news here, sure am glad we don't live around those Dang Great Lakes.  I've only had to plow snow at the house once this year and twice at the shop. :D :D  We have about 12" of snow in the bush.  Mind you we've been in the deep freeze for the last 5 weeks.  Lots of sunshine here but bitter cold.  -30C tonight with -40 windchill , been like this since New Years.  Last year it snowed everyday in February, and we had about 4 ft.
Happy shovelling and plowing ;D ;D ;D

YUP!!! >:( >:( >:( And I am beginning to here ice pellets hit the window on occasion from the wind. They said as far north as Mars Hill might see freezing rain. Seems it just arrived. Just about always in February/March/April a NE'er will produce freezing rain here. The wind is keeping  half the driveway cleaned out. Just looked out and can still see pavement.  ;D But, what does stick is going to be dang hard packed stuff.  :( :-X :-X

started plowing @ 07:30 hrs this morning. Its now 21:30 and I am in the house for the night, got between 10 - 12 inches , started drifting so now its anyone guess...... still snowing and blowing...
My Kubota M 6800 is the balls for plowing snow....... 1 yard snow bucket on front and an 8'5" Land pride high blade scraper blade on the back.... Heated cab w/ stereo makes plowing enjoyable.... I be out first thing in the morning to do the clean up and push back !!!!!!!!

Captain

Mike, we missed it all down here.  About an inch before hard rain today.  I actually saw 39 degrees at one point today.  Already freezing on tonight, however....

Well,    In the southwest corner of New Hampshire the weather man was about half right.  The forecast was for 16 - 25 inches of snow by 7:00 am Thursday morning.  We got just under 12 inches.  Don't get me wrong I am not complaining.

Sure was a bit nippy last night sitting on an open tractor pushing that snow around, and the wind didn't help.  Every thing is all nice and white right now.  This is the second plowable storm this winter for us and the plow guys are going crazy.

Getting into the woods will be a little difficult on the first trip, but it has been real easy for the last few weeks since the ground froze.

It got up to 30 here and wind, but not much snow. Maybe 3 inches, a slight bit of freezing rain, the steps had less than a inch on them. I blew drifted snow out of half the driveway, the rest was bare. In that picture you see above was about the same I saw this morning when blowing snow. Didn't amount to a hill of marbles. Still light, fine snow coming down. I don't doubt I'll see a glimpse of sun before sundown.  ;D

I will have to go to the woods and take an accurate measure of the snow depth, out of the wind. They said 25 cm on the news in NW New Brunswick, well I'm here and I don't see it. I think they like to take the measurement from an area with the highest localized accumulation and blow it up to sensationalize it. What a bunch of goofs. ::)

We got over 60 centimeters here ...  for those with limited knowledge of the metric system  :P... 30 centimeters = one foot .... and more is coming down  ::)   this is where you would see a shovelling smilly  :D :D

40 miles east of Albany we got right at one foot.  Maybe a touch more, hard to tell with all the drifting and blowing.   I spent all morning pushing the stuff around.

Swampy, I got about 30 cm at my place, there was about 40cm at the top of the hill in Mactaquac, they always get more there.  I was up at 5 am blowing snow in the tractor and it was still coming down.  Left for Moncton at 6 am, lots of snow until Oromocto then hardly any.  Moncton got about 5 cm it looked like.

What we got [5" snow 3" sleet] was froze so bad this morning, plastic snow shovel bounced off it. Had to break it with a dirt shovel, then scoop it.  The plow worked great, did 2 driveways besides mine, 10F, like a kid with a new toy. Well, I had my "fun", warmer weather next week, will be tapping trees then. The grounghog can hang & rattle for all I care -  smiley_hanged

Where are you at stonebroke? We are in Sidney, got around 30 inches up here on the hill.had to call in reinforcements to move the banks back.
The breedermobile scrubed on both sides going out through the woods this morning. :o
Together we got this !

We got around 8 inches.  But, about 3-4 inches were sleet and there was some freezing rain mixed in, too.  I couldn't hardly get out my lane in 4 WD low.  It was like trying to drive on sand.  It was too heavy to blow with the blower, so I just used the front end loader.

But, the highways are another story.  I-81 is shut down today, 1 day after the storm, from Harrisburg to the NY state line.   :o   I-78 has a 40 mile backup.   :o  Some people have been in their cars for 24 hours.  You would think that someone could find an exit.

I can't figure out why some truckers just can't stay off the highways.  The problems started when they jackknifed their trucks and the plows couldn't get through.  Then the winds started and blew things shut.  And who did the truckers blame?  PenDOT - the highway department.  It was ALL their fault.  Truckers said it was an interstate highway and the road was supposed to be bare.

I saw reports where they were saying that a plow truck normally does 1 tank of fuel in a shift.  This snow was so heavy that they had to use 2 tanks.  What they normally do with one pass took 3 or 4.  So, things are really backed up.

It will be interesting to see what the fallout from this storm will be.  I feel if the truckers don't like our highways, chose another state.

stonebroke lives right out side cobleskill . I heard a guy in the store today say he lives outside oneonta and he got 41 inches. Central Bridge got 38.5 inches and stratford up in the mohawk valley got 42 inches. The roads are getting very narrow but there is little traffic. I think we were in a band going north that got the worse of it. Very windy today with ground blizzard.

The wind picked up again here mid morning. At dawn it was almost calm for awhile. Last night was really windy. The wind blew all day and picked the snow way up into the sky like clouds moving fast across the fields. Think desert dust storms here. Going to be the same tomorrow for wind.

Well I made it out to the farm today and plowed drive & parking area.   put in about 2 hrs working my little tractor hard, ran through 1/2 tank of fuel usually that last 7 hrs per tank not this one ...   I had 12~24" in drifts every where.   shallowest spot I found was maybe 6" where wind blew between house & 50' white pines where drive turns 90 degrees.   the trailer is buried so that you can only see the top front brace/bar which sets 30+" off the ground.   I could see the tires on it too but only top edges.   I pushed as much snow as possible using my old (NEW TO ME) 50 buck 6' blade.   I managed to get my low riding crown vic car off the street but only to where the back bumper was even with the road.  which was almost dry after all the sun.  Snow Plow tore off my mail box, NEW post put in back in September/November time.   Broke it pretty good,  >:(   I'll have to fix it early Saturday morning.    Nearly ran out of space to put snow, had to chain pull the crown vic out of the plowed up snow bank, spun all 4 tractor tires pulling on it to get it to move and then it rolled out and almost into the yard where I piled snow 3+ feet deep (drive drops off about 5' there.)   had good time except for wet shoes/feet from getting into cabin/barn after having to walk 600 of so feet back from the road where crown vic got stuck.

all in all I'm still cold even after comming home to find some really good slow cooked pork chops and gravy mix with mashed taters & green beans for dinner :D :p   now I'm warmer fuller and ready for nap time  lol...

A trick when you replace your mailbox post, Put in at least a 10 or 12 foot post so it sticks up way past your mailbox. I don't know if this forces them to drive around instead of just picking up the wing  or if they  see it better but since I did this I have not lost one. I have a friend who put a cement filled well casing in the ground 6 feet, That one only got hit once. It tore the wing plow right off.

Another thing I almost forgot, Put the mailbox on the side of the post away from where the plow approaches.

Around here if the county knocks off a postal box they have to fix it as the post office has the right to have boxes along the road.  The concrete and steel post are illegal here also because of the damaged that can be done in an accident.  Some people will put the post on the over side of the ditch and put a swinging arm across to the road for the box.  That way if it is hit it will just swing out of the way but that does not work so good if it is buried in the snow drift the begin with. ::)

It looks like my mailbox has been whacked pretty good.  Real heavy snow.  I'll just bend it back into shape until spring.

My uncle knocked off my dad's mailbox when moving snow.  He probably did it on purpose.  So, my dad put in a piece of well casing and filled it with concrete.  Still standing after 45 years.

Between Carthage and Beaver Falls New York about a mile off 126.
I plowed every day for 8 days never less than 6 inches nor more than a foot.
Poor little 1950 8N Ford worked pretty hard for an old timer. Piled as high as I can with the loader. If it keeps up I'll have to get the neighbors big 4 wheel drive John Deer it will pile about 5 feet higher than my litte Ford. I don't think it was as bad as the blizzard of 77 when I worked for the Township Worked 90 some hours that week.
