I am changing the motor mounts on my WM LT30HDG24 and wanted to replace my drive belt as it has split about half way around and one side is somewhat bad.
I went to my parts box and there was on old belt that had split in two. No new belt...... sure as usually on a Saturday afternoon and no body is at WM at this time of day.
So I went to my local Napa store but they couldn't see to find it and didn't have a belt measuring thing that was long enough to measure it.
I called a local snowmobile shop but they were going to close in 10 minutes and I couldn't get there in time.
Does anyone know of a brand name and/or part number of a belt that I can get at say any snowmobile shop?

My parts book says it's a 2B74 belt.

Thanks,
Jim Rogers

Hey Jim,
I do not think you will find the right belt. You may find a 2B74 at a farm supply shop. The part # has changed to 2BX74 the X designates it has Kevlar fibers and will last much longer. I was out in the field last winter and I could not get a LT40HDE25 to cut for nothing, wavey cuts I did everything. I gave up at 1 am and went home. Customer called back the next day and orderd a new drive belt. Seems the original belt had been replaced with the right length but the sheave was different angle. So I learned the hard way. Just be aware it may look the same but not work 100%.
Thanks,
Marty

It's always good to have spare parts on hand.  Seems you always need them on the weekend.

Next best thing to having spare parts on hand,  is to know and be on good terms with other mill owners in your area that may have a spare!

P.S.  Be sure to order two Monday.  Maybe look around and see what else you need.  Probably won't make the shipping cost much if any higher.

If both sides are good, don't worry about the center, let it split, it will run just the same. NAPA has a 2B74, lasts a long time, get you out of a pinch.

   8)  b is the width of the belt x means it is gripnotch  74 is the length  2 at the front means and i am guessing means their are two belts matched exactly the same lenth goodyear gates and etc make them any industrial supply store should have them good luck looking i think whatyou would ask for is a matched set of two bx x 74 :) :) 8)

I need to order a spare drive belt...

I was thinking today while starting up the saw, one of these days this is gonna break, and I'm not going to have a spare.

they don't break while sitting there :)

buying spare parts is kind of painful, but I'm getting quite a collection.

Ok, so I called WM in Maine this morning and she told me that it was a Goodyear belt and that the number was EX74.
I tried to get this locally from a snowmobile shop and they said that my belt was twice as long as anything they sell for snowmobiles.
I got an email, while I was traveling to Maine to pickup my two new belts, one to put on and one for the parts shelf, and Rick Lauman said that this is a special belt made by Goodyear for WM and may not cross over in anyone's standard belt catalog....

Thanks for everyone's advice....

   8)      i have got a book i think in the shop that tells the different sheve widths and pitches soon as i am able i will try and find it i know their is an a width and b width belt i am wondering what the actual width of the e width belt is please advise when you get it and i will try and cross reference it to a standard size  wm does advise goodyear belts  :) :)                8)

I think it was a misprint.
Onan 24 hp calls for Wood-Mizer part #P10277-2 ( 2BX74)   $35.50
25 HP Kohler calls for (2BX72 )Double Backed Notched part# P09555-2 $31.50
28hp Kohler Fuel Injected calls for Part # 036163 ( 2BXF71) all drive belts are Good Year. $39.50  ( I think this is the Kevlar belt)

I put the cost in here so you could see that the price is reasonable. ( IMO ) I have had some customers purchase a belt from another source and they have paid twice what we have available and it was not the correct part. I like deals also but if it dont work right it aint no deal.  ;)

Hope this helps!

Ok, so I put one of the two new belts in yesterday, and I had to greatly adjust my turnbuckle to get the clutch handle to lock down. As the old setting was for a very old and warn out belt.
What is the correct setting now?
I'm asking what deflection and what number of pounds?
I was told some time ago, that it should be 7/16" deflection under 14 lbs of force to cause the deflection.
But it seems to me that this force has been increased to something like 26 lbs.
I don't know which is right.
I when to Walmart and got a new fish weighing scale to hook to my belt so that I can measure the force I'm pulling the belt down to the correct number of pounds. So I'm all set once I know what the pounds are.
Can anyone tell me?

Thanks.

We use a wide double belt to allow more HP to transfer to the blade. 2 single belts are never exactly the same size so you do not get equal torque on them.
When replacing the belt you make your engaged adjustment first. 7/16 deflection at 25lbs of force. How do you know what 25lbs is, it a pretty good push to make it move 7/16". Verify the the clutch enhancer is in the correct place. This is the rod mounted to the engine, near the engine pulley, below the drive belt. It should be a 1/16" away from the belt when engaged. After all this, then you adjust the brake strap. When the brake is adjusted properly you should be able to walk the belt off the drive pulley almost all the way without getting it off.

I thought I read this some where before.....
I just found this thread I started around 4 years ago......

OK we have changed a few things since 2004. Here are some of the spec. for what the part # of belts above.
Gas engines. Onan 18, 20 and 24 hp 7/16" deflection @ 8 lb force Adjust A new belt first 20 hours then every 50 hours
Gas engines. Kohler 25 28 hp   7/16" deflection @14 lb of force.   Adjust A new belt first 20 hours then every 50 hours.
If you have a Super Diesel or Electric there are some different specs for these please look in your manual or give you nearst WM dealer or branch a call.

We have a belt tension gauge part # 016309 that helps you know what 8 lb of force is. A weight pull scale ( Fish scale could work in a pinch)

If this is not clear please post your engine size and mill revision and I will get you the spec. These are listed in your manual also. ( at least in the newer manuals) If you have auto clutch option the procedure is listed there.

Note: none of the belts we use now have over 24 lb torque applied to them for adjustment.  :o and a used belt is only 18 lb.  :o All of the other information Sparks listed is correct.  Again please call for your specific model spec.

Thanks!

I have a brand new WM double banded belt for an onan setup available if anyone needs one or a spare.  I bought it before I did my Kawamizer swap.

One note on belts is most any industrial bearing/pulley/hydraulic supply house in a sizable city is going to have banded double belts by goodyear etc. for all type of equipment. Graingers too,  although I seem to remember they didn't have the banded size I needed.
