Skidder winch-brake slave cyl.

I'm looking for a part. This was on my Thiokol but a couple of old loggers swear it's similar to a slave cylinder that operates the brake on a Timberjack or Gearomatic winch.

If you have seen something like it and can tell me the application or part number, I would really appreciate it.

I have looked for the casting # and I'm told it's 'obsolete'. I'll be thrilled to find something that's the same basic format with an inch and 1/4 bore. This one is 1+3/8 bore and about 2-3" of throw. The square thing on the end isn't important- i could weld something on.

Take it apart hone it and replace the packing. hook the lines up bleed and use like new.

I tried that...can't get the rubber packing out (it's a little unattached- probably the leak ). Walls are slightly pitted . Honing didn't help. Rebuild kits aren't available either .

Bunny, it's a simple machine shop job to bore out the cylinder and press in a stainless steel sleeve. Look at automotive brake cylinder parts for cups and seals.  That pic looks very much like a clutch slave cylinder off an older ford pickup. I'd take it to a good automotive parts place and ask for another one like it. Play dumb and don't say what it goes on. ;D

I was very impressed that the man looked for 5 minutes before asking me what it went on  :D

I think I've located one for less than the machine shop costs. My big problem is that I can't get the rubber out without ( possibly ) destroying the piston.

The master cylinder is from a mid 60s Ford truck . I've scoured the pictures in the parts books and 2 parts guys have, too..... we can't find anything with a heavy enough rod. Quarter inch isn't going to last long.

Dirty trick for getting pistons out of stuck cylinders...Any body shop will have a gadget called a porta-power. Basicly a hand operated hydraulic pump. Connect a short piece of brake line to the cylinder and the other end to the porta-power pump. A few strokes on the pump will most likely blow the piston out the end of the cylinder...
PS don't forget to pry the rubber boot off the end of the cylinder and remove the retaining clip  first.  ;D

Thanks. The piston and rubber are out of the cylinder.

I can't get the piston apart to replace the rubber.

I had to replace a master cylinder on an engine lathe. It sure looked like a small car master cylinder. Went to the local NAPA store, $24.95 and 5 minutes later I had a Toyota cylinder that was an exact duplicate, even the color.

Sometime ya get lucky.  8)  8)  8)

 On the gearamatic model 19, my parts book has part # A839BX for the sub ass'y. And the service kit # is A9547X. The push rod on this brake cylinder is similar to an engine push rod.
