Carmex is a lip balm that comes in little "jars", and is about the best stuff I've ever used for chapped lips.  I must have three or four jars of the stuff....one at work, one in the truck, one on the night stand, one in the kitchen....

Just thought I'd share another use for the stuff that I discovered.  Every once in a while I'll get an itch either right around my nostirl, or on the side of my nostril where the little crevice is.  Well, as soon as I scratch it, it seems to itch even more, and then it just gets really sore...but still itches  :(  I just take a little bit of Carmex on my finger, and apply liberally to the sore spot.  Resist the temptation to scratch for a few minutes and the pain & itch will be gone  :)

I kicked the Carmex habit years ago. :D  I found myself licking my lips more when I had the stuff on.  Now-a-days, if the chops are chapped, Burts Bees wax is what I reach for.  It goes on thinner so is less bothersom to me.  At nighttime a liberal coat of Vaseline will moisten things up pretty good come morning without the stiffness I usually get with a medicated product.

Lip Medex from Blistex.  Heals all kinds of things, including cracked kin around the thumb and fingertips.
440B skidder, JD350 dozer, Husqvarnas from 335 to 394. All spruced up

That's funny, Metalspinner, cuz I find I lick my lips LESS when I use Carmex...I just don't like the taste of it  :D  Denise just bought me some Burt's Bees Wax, and I gotta say I really like it.  The (peppermint?) oil that's in it is nice.  The medicated stuff in the chapstick-like tube is even better than the balm in the little tin.

I prefer using the Burt's Bees before bed.  I wake up with a nasty taste when I use Carmex before bed  :(   Carmex is still the best for my sore nose  ;)

There is a new product making its way through the trumpet playing world called "Chop Saver".  I just picked up a couple of free samples just have not tryed it out yet.  It comes in the tube with the screw thing in the bottom.  The reviews from many brass players has been very positive.  The problem with other medicated products for brass players is that it stiffens your lips a bit.  That's not good. horn_smiley

When my daughter was a teen if she felt a spot tender on her face she would put Carmex on it and swore she had less eruptions as a result. I know from personal use if my sinuses are dry the a little dab over the top lip seems to do the trick. CV

I knew there had to be some other good uses for that stuff  ;)  I'll have to try it for a bug repellant sometime.  Woodchuck, I've also used it in my nose when it gets dry in the winter.  If it's real bad I'll put Neosporin on a Q-tip and swab the inside of my nose, but the Carmex works good too  :)
