I need information about how to take carbon from the atmosphere! You know plant a tree and it will take some CO2 from the air! I dont know the English exprasion for that so made it! That how we say in Portuguese. I know that there is a math to get the value of it. Can some one halp?
Thanks!

  Fab I think a butterfly net might work......like a really big one. :D :D :D

Could you hang it from there? I hang a side from here!!!!!!!!!!!
I just hope we did not get so much crap!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

I don't know if it is what you are looking for but it makes interesting reading.

Almoust!!!! :o
There is another way of look at this. Trees use CO2 for fotosintesse and as a resoult (I know you know that) O2 if send to atmosphere! That math is what I am looking for. There is a idea of how helps to take CO2 from the air can be out of charge for been a poluent person/company! It is Un stuff I guess Protocol 21! Rio+10! Kioto! One of then!!!!!!

This is not what you are looking for but has a calculator for taking co2 out of air with trees.

There was a thread on another forum some time ago about CO2 sinks.  Our foresters were involved with it and it seems to me had some good information.  there may have been some formulas provided but I can't remember and I can't find the thread.  Perhaps they will see this and get involved.

I'll look around in my spare time and see what I can find.  I might not find what you want, but I can find a bunch of wrong stuff. :D

Thanks Tom. I am looking for it in Brasil forum. It will be a little difficult to share since all the information are in Portuguese. I also found sone nice wrong staff and it make me learn more about nothing and it is good.
I will check out the site.

QuoteIf you can't find the equation you were after, e-mail me at webmaster@tcaep.co.uk and let me know. I can then look at your request and see what I can do about it.

Nice link Kevin.
I do need to find the equation name!!!!!

Fab,
  I'm just an old shopteacher, so don't know nothing about taking carbon out of the air. I do clean it out of my chainsaw muffler once in a while. Now, on to more important things. How was the birthday celebration? How many B 52's? How much can you remember about that night?

Photosynthesis is:

6CO2 + 12H2O + sunlight ---> 6O 2 + C6 H12O6 + 6H2O
or...
carbon dioxide + water + sunlight --->oxygen + carbohydrate + water

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for, but here is a publication that should help you quite a bit.

http://www.aeco.ttu.edu/Publications/AAEA/ramirez,carpio.pdf

It has to do with economic value of the carbon sink in tropical forests.  There are some equations there that refer to the amount of biomass that accumulates in some second growth forests in the tropics.  I only skimmed the article, but looks like an interesting read.

Are you looking for biomass production or carbon sequestration?  Not necessarily the same thing.

The problem with carbon sink therory of carbon sequestration is what to do with all the carbon after you have it in the trees.  The trees eventually must be cut, since older trees start to give off CO2, primarily through the roots.  Younger trees absorb more of the CO2 than older trees.

Utilization becomes the next target.  You can't burn the wood or let it rot.  It must be put into building or papaer products, and left in building form.  Good for the industry.

The other problem is how much forest land needed to offset the rise in CO2 production.  The current amount may be managable, but put China in the mix and their aggressive energy consumption, and you have a lot of trees needed.  Then you have to offset the needed lands for food production with the increasing population.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Carbon sequestration, that is the name!!!!! I hate when I spent hours try to write perfect, trying to explain exataly what I want becouse I do not know the English e´presion and it is JUST THE SAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am not sure about what to do after all with the trees but to keep then at the tree the most you can, or to have trees/forestrys been planted is the general idea for now.
Other problem is not just the CO2 prodution from us, trees also freedon CO2 at night with it respiration system.
Good discution though!!!!!!
I will check the site!
 :)About b-day, shopteacher, I had just 4 drinks. I was driving! I will scanned the pictures and whatever I can not remember, the pictures will tell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you talking about the dark cycle or cellular respiration? Most everyone one knows about photosynthesis (light cycle)where CO2 is used to create the sugars and O2 but some are not aware that O2 is also used by the plants in what is called the dark cycle that actually occurs all the time . I can look up the reactions involved similar to what Ron posted on photosynthesis. I have forgotten some of the equations.

The Carbon Sequestration is more than that! It is also related with any industrial process that would avoid send CO2 to the atmosphare and any industrial process that would help to capture CO2 from the atmosphare. Trees are both capturing and releafing CO2 into the air.
I guess the ISO 14000 has a topic on the "non-polution company" issue.
Actualy any information or opinion is well-coming.
